A system for communicating with a motor includes an NFC antenna coupled to a motor assembly and configured to receive signals from a motor controller. The NFC antenna is configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected frequency. The system also includes a communication interface configured to relay the signals from the NFC antenna to a handheld device.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A system for communicating motor control signals, said system comprising: a motor assembly including a motor controller; a motor housing defining an interior space and enclosing said motor assembly within the interior space; an antenna coupled to said motor assembly and configured to receive signals from said motor controller, said antenna configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected first frequency for communication in a radio-based communication system; and a communication interface mounted outside of the interior space, said communication interface configured to relay the signals from said antenna to a handheld device, said communication interface including a first radio component and a second radio component coupled to said first radio component, wherein said first radio component is configured to transmit the signals at a second frequency different from the selected first frequency. 2. The system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said communication interface is mounted on said motor housing. 3. The system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said communication interface is mounted on a support structure adjacent said motor housing. 4. The system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said first radio component includes a radio antenna configured to transmit radio signals for at least one of the following systems: Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), and Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN). 5. The system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said antenna is configured to receive the signals during operation of said motor assembly, wherein the signals relate to at least one operational parameter of said motor assembly. 6. The system in accordance with claim 5 , wherein said communication interface is further configured to relay a signal relating to a user command from the handheld device to said motor controller, said motor controller configured to adjust operation of said motor assembly based at least partially on said user command. 7. The system in accordance with claim 1 further comprising communication components coupled to said antenna, wherein said antenna is configured to transmit signals between said communication components and said motor controller, and wherein said antenna is configured to communicate in an NFC system. 8. The system in accordance with claim 1 further comprising: a link extending between said antenna and said motor controller, said link coupled to both said antenna and said motor controller; and a filter coupled to said link, wherein said filter is configured to regulate signals transmitted through said link. 9. The system in accordance with claim 1 , wherein said motor assembly includes a motor, and wherein said motor controller is coupled to said motor and configured to control operation of said motor, said motor controller including a processor including a first memory, wherein said second radio component is an NFC component including said antenna and a second memory, wherein said antenna is configured to communicate in an NFC system, and wherein said NFC component is configured to send signals to said motor controller including information from said second memory for storage on said first memory. 10. The system in accordance with claim 9 , wherein said second memory includes a static random access memory. 11. The system in accordance with claim 10 , wherein said first memory includes a random access memory. 12. The system in accordance with claim 10 , wherein said NFC component is further configured to erase information on said first memory. 13. The system in accordance with claim 10 , further comprising a power source coupled to said NFC component, wherein said NFC component is configured to transfer information to said first memory when said power source supplies power to said NFC component. 14. A system for communicating motor control signals, said system comprising: a motor assembly including a motor controller, wherein said motor controller includes an NFC tuned circuit; an NFC antenna coupled to said motor assembly and configured to receive signals from said motor controller, said NFC antenna configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected first frequency, wherein the magnetic field is configured to induce an electric current in said NFC tuned circuit; communication components coupled to said NFC antenna, wherein said NFC antenna is configured to transmit signals between said communication components and said motor controller; and a communication interface configured to relay the signals from said NFC antenna to a handheld device, said communication interface including a radio component configured to transmit the signals at a second frequency different from the selected first frequency. 15. The system in accordance with claim 14 , wherein said NFC antenna and said communication components are mounted on a control board. 16. The system in accordance with claim 15 , wherein said control board includes a circuit electrically coupled to said NFC antenna and said communication components. 17. The system in accordance with claim 15 further comprising: a link extending between said NFC antenna and said motor controller, said link coupled to both said NFC antenna and said motor controller; and a filter coupled to said link, wherein said filter is configured to regulate signals transmitted through said link. 18. The system in accordance with claim 17 , wherein said filter is mounted to said control board. 19. The system in accordance with claim 17 , wherein said filter includes at least one of a common mode and a band pass filter. 20. A system for communicating with a motor, said system comprising: an NFC antenna configured to couple to a motor assembly and receive signals from an NFC tuned circuit of a motor controller, said NFC antenna configured to emit a magnetic field at a selected first frequency, wherein the magnetic field is configured to induce an electric current in said NFC tuned circuit; communication components coupled to said NFC antenna, wherein said NFC antenna is configured to transmit signals between said communication components and said motor controller; and a communication interface configured to relay the signals from said NFC antenna to a handheld device, said communication interface including a radio component configured to transmit the signals at a second frequency different from the selected first frequency. 21. The system in accordance with claim 20 , wherein said NFC antenna and said communication components are mounted on a control board. 22. The system in accordance with claim 21 , wherein said control board includes a circuit electrically coupled to said NFC antenna and said communication components. 23. The system in accordance with claim 21 further comprising: a link extending between said NFC antenna and said motor controller, said link coupled to both said NFC antenna and said motor controller; and a filter coupled to said link, wherein said filter is configured to regulate signals transmitted through said link.
