Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A cutting guide includes a first guide structure having a base, a first saw support, and a second saw support. The first saw support is attached to the base and defines a first saw contact surface. The second saw support is attached to the base and defines a second saw contact surface that is spaced apart from the first saw contact surface so as to define an elongated cutting slot therebetween. The elongate cutting slot defines (i) a first slot portion, (ii) a second slot portion that is contiguous with the first slot portion, and (iii) a third slot portion that is contiguous with the second slot portion. The second slot portion is interposed between the first slot portion and the third slot portion.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. A cutting guide for use with a power saw having a cutting blade, comprising: a guide structure including (i) a base, (ii) a first saw support extending directly from said base and defining a first saw support surface configured to support the power saw, said first saw support surface defining a first saw support plane, (iii) a second saw support extending directly from said base and defining a second saw support surface configured to support the power saw, said second saw support surface defining a second saw support plane that is non-coplanar with said first saw support plane and intersects said first saw support plane at an intersection, and (iv) an elongated cutting slot defined at said intersection, said elongated cutting slot configured to receive the cutting blade therethrough, wherein said intersection defines a longitudinal axis, wherein said elongated cutting slot is collinear with said longitudinal axis, wherein said base defines a cavity located below said elongated cutting slot for allowing the cutting blade to extend into said cavity through said elongated cutting slot, wherein said base includes a first lateral passage surface and a second lateral passage surface that are spaced apart from each other so as to define a workpiece passage therebetween, wherein said base further includes a guide wall positioned in said cavity, said guide wall defining a guide surface, and wherein said first lateral passage surface and said guide surface lie in a guide plane. 2. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein: said elongate cutting slot is oriented along said longitudinal axis, and said longitudinal axis is perpendicular to said guide plane. 3. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein: a passage width is defined as a distance between said first lateral passage surface and said second lateral passage surface extending parallel to said intersection, and a length of said elongated cutting slot is greater than said passage width. 4. The cutting guide of claim 3 , wherein a passage width axis is perpendicular to the first lateral passage surface and to the second lateral passage surface, and the passage width axis is parallel to the longitudinal axis. 5. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein said longitudinal axis is perpendicular to said guide plane. 6. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein said cavity is located directly below said elongated cutting slot. 7. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein said elongated cutting slot extends through said guide structure between said first saw support and said second saw support. 8. The cutting guide of claim 1 , wherein said guide plane intersects said elongated cutting slot. 9. A cutting guide for use with a power saw having a cutting blade, comprising: a guide structure including (i) a base including a first end wall and a second end wall, (ii) a first saw support extending directly from said base and including a first saw support surface defining a first saw support plane, (iii) a second saw support extending directly from said base and including a second saw support surface defining a second saw support plane that is non-coplanar with said first saw support plane and intersects said first saw support plane at an intersection, and (iv) an elongated cutting slot defined at said intersection, said elongated cutting slot configured to receive the cutting blade therethrough, wherein said intersection defines a longitudinal axis, wherein said elongated cutting slot is collinear with said longitudinal axis, wherein said base defines a cavity located below said elongated cutting slot for allowing the cutting blade to extend into said cavity through said elongated cutting slot, wherein said base further includes a guide wall positioned entirely in said cavity, wherein said guide wall defines a guide surface, wherein said guide surface is positioned directly under said elongated cutting slot, wherein said first and second end walls each define a “V”-shaped opening, wherein said base further includes a first lateral passage surface and a second lateral passage surface that are spaced apart from each other so as to define a workpiece passage therebetween, and wherein said first lateral passage surface and said guide surface lie in a guide plane. 10. The cutting guide of claim 9 , wherein: said first saw support defines a cutout that is contiguous with said elongated cutting slot, and said guide surface is positioned directly under said cutout. 11. The cutting guide of claim 9 , wherein: a passage width is defined as a distance between said first lateral passage surface and said second lateral passage surface extending parallel to said intersection, and a length of said elongated cutting slot is greater than said passage width.
