Various systems and methods are provided for surgical and interventional planning, support, post-operative follow-up, and functional recovery tracking. In general, data related to retraction of tissue can be gathered during performance of a surgical procedure. In one embodiment, the data can be used during performance of the surgical procedure, e.g., to determine whether a length of time a tissue is retracted using a retractor reaches a predetermined threshold amount of time, an amount of tissue retraction reaches a predetermined amount of tissue, and an amount of pressure being placed on tissue and/or nerves as a result of retraction reaches a predetermined amount of pressure, and/or the data can be used after performance of the surgical procedure, e.g., in determining a correlation between the data and patient pain level data.

What is claimed is: 1. A medical method, comprising: receiving data regarding tissue retraction in a performance of a virtual surgical procedure on a model of a patient; gathering tissue retraction data during performance of a surgical procedure on the patient indicative of an amount of pressure being placed on at least one of tissue and nerves as a result of retraction of a tissue using a retractor, the gathering including gathering data from at least one sensor coupled to the retractor; in real time with the performance of the surgical procedure, comparing the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure and the tissue retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure to determine if the tissue retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure has an intolerable variance from the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure; in response to determining that the tissue retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure has an intolerable variance from the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure, generating, using a processor of a computer system, an alert during the performance of the surgical procedure; using the processor of the computer system, determining during the performance of the surgical procedure whether the amount of pressure reaches a predetermined amount of pressure, the processor being operatively coupled to the at least one sensor; and in response to determining that the amount of pressure reaches the predetermined amount of pressure, the processor causing automatic engagement of a mechanical mechanism operatively coupled to the retractor and thereby preventing the amount of pressure from exceeding the predetermined amount of pressure; wherein the predetermined amount of pressure is based on data gathered regarding a plurality of surgical procedures previously performed on other patients. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of surgical procedures includes tissue being retracted, and the data gathered with respect to the plurality of surgical procedures previously performed on other patients includes data indicative of a pain level experienced by each of the plurality of patients post-surgery. 3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising, during performance of the surgical procedure, the processor causing notification to be provided to a user of the pain level experienced by each of the plurality of patients post-surgery. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein: gathering the data also includes gathering data indicative of at least one of a length of time the tissue is retracted using the retractor, and an amount of the tissue retraction; and the method further comprises, in response to determining that any one or more of the length of time reaches the predetermined threshold amount of time, and the amount of tissue retraction reaches the predetermined amount of tissue, the processor causing the retractor to automatically change in position relative to the tissue being retracted. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the alert is generated at least one of visually, by motion, and by sound. 6. The method of claim 4 , further comprising, updating at least one of the predetermined threshold amount of time, the predetermined amount of tissue, and the predetermined amount of pressure based on the data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure such that the data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure can be considered in a future performance of a surgical procedure on another patient. 7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: in response to determining that the amount of pressure reaches the predetermined amount of pressure, the processor generating an alarm during the performance of the surgical procedure, wherein the alarm is generated at least one of visually, by motion, and by sound. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the surgical procedure is performed on a joint of the patient. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the processor executes the gathering of the tissue retraction data, and wherein a storage device stores the patient data related to surgical procedures previously performed on other patients. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein each of the plurality of surgical procedures involved tissue being retracted, and the data gathered with respect to the plurality of surgical procedures previously performed on other patients includes data indicative of a pain level experienced by each of the plurality of patients post-surgery. 11. The method of claim 9 , further comprising the processor updating the predetermined amount of pressure based on the tissue retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure such that the tissue retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure can be considered in a future performance of a surgical procedure on another patient. 12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the mechanical mechanism includes one or more clutches. 13. A medical method, comprising: receiving data regarding tissue retraction in each of a plurality of performances of a virtual surgical procedure on a model of different patients; for each of a plurality of surgical procedures performed on the different patients, gathering retraction data related to tissue being retracted during performance of the surgical procedure using one or more sensors coupled to a retractor retracting the tissue; for each of the different patients, gathering pain level data indicative of a pain level of the patient following performance of the surgical procedure thereon; storing the gathered retraction data and the gathered pain level data in one or more storage devices; comparing the gathered pain level data and the gathered retraction data to determine a correlation; using the correlation before a performance of a surgical procedure on a patient to determine a pathway through nervous tissue of a patient to access target tissue of the patient; using a processor of a computer system, using the correlation during the performance of the surgical procedure on the patient involving retraction of the target tissue of the patient, wherein using the correlation during the performance of the surgical procedure includes the processor causing a retractor retracting the target tissue of the patient to automatically change position relative to the target tissue being retracted; for each of the performances of the surgical procedures performed on the different patients, in real time comparing the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure on the patient and retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure on the patient to determine if the retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure on the patient has an intolerable variance from the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure on the patient; and in response to determining that the retraction data gathered during the performance of the surgical procedure on the patient has an intolerable variance from the data received regarding tissue retraction in the performance of the virtual surgical procedure on the patient, generating, using the processor, an alert during the retracting of the tissue. 14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising gathering real time data related to the tissue retraction during the performance of the surgical
