The invention described herein pertains to compounds and compositions for treating Ape1 mediated diseases. In particular, the invention described herein pertains to quinone compounds and pharmaceutical compositions containing them for treating Ape1 mediated diseases.

What is claimed is: 1. A compound of the formula or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, wherein: R is alkoxy; X is CH═CR X ; and wherein R X is C 1 -C 10 alkyl; and Y is NR 2 OR 2 or N(R 1 ) 2 , where each R 1 is alkyl; where each R 2 is independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and alkyl. 2. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R is methoxy. 3. The compound of claim 1 , wherein each R 1 is methyl or ethyl. 4. The compound of claim 1 , wherein at least one R 2 is hydrogen. 5. The compound of claim 1 , wherein at least one R 2 is alkyl. 6. The compound of claim 1 , wherein one R 2 is alkyl, and one R 2 is hydrogen. 7. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Y is NR 2 OR 2 . 8. The compound of claim 1 , wherein Y is N(R 1 ) 2 . 9. The compound of claim 1 , wherein both R 2 are methyl. 10. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is C 1 -C 9 alkyl. 11. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is C 9 alkyl. 12. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is n-nonyl. 13. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is C 1 -C 6 alkyl. 14. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is C 1 -C 4 alkyl. 15. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is C 3 -C 4 alkyl. 16. The compound of claim 1 , wherein R x is methyl. 17. A pharmaceutical composition comprising one or more compounds of claim 1 . 18. The composition of claim 17 , further comprising one or more carriers, or excipients, or a combination thereof. 19. A unit dose or unit dosage form composition comprising one or more compounds of claim 1 for treating a disease responsive to Ape1 inhibition.
