The present invention relates to the use of a mono (meth)acrylate ester in a golf ball layer. The mono (meth)acrylate ester may be added to one or more portions of a golf ball including a core, intermediate, or cover layer. For example, in one embodiment, the mono (meth)acrylate ester may be blended with a polybutadiene rubber material. In another embodiment, the mono (meth)acrylate ester of the present invention may be blended with an ionomer. In some embodiments, the mono (meth)acrylate ester may be blended with a formulation including both a polybutadiene rubber component and an ionomer.

What is claimed is: 1. A golf ball comprising a cover, a core, and an intermediate layer disposed between the cover and the core, wherein the core comprises: a blend of a polybutadiene rubber, at least one acrylate or methacrylate ester, and a reactive coagent, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II): where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate or methacrylate ester is present in the blend in an amount of about 10 phr to about 50 phr; and wherein the reactive coagent is a fatty acid or fatty acid salt selected from stearic acid, behenic acid, erucic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and metals salts thereof. 2. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the core has a hardness of about 70 Shore C to about 85 Shore C. 3. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the blend comprises at least two acrylate esters or at least two methacrylate esters. 4. A golf ball comprising a cover, a core, and an intermediate layer disposed between the cover and the core, wherein the core comprises: a blend of a polybutadiene rubber, at least one acrylate ester, at least one methacrylate ester, and a reactive coagent, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II): where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate and methacrylate esters are present in the blend in an amount of about 10 phr to about 50 phr; and wherein the reactive coagent is a fatty acid or fatty acid salt selected from stearic acid, behenic acid, erucic acid, oleic acid, linoleic acid, and metals salts thereof. 5. The golf ball of claim 4 , wherein the at least one acrylate ester is selected from the group consisting of methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, propyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, pentyl acrylate, lauryl acrylate, isobutyl acrylate, allyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, tridecyl acrylate, hexadecyl acrylate, octadecenyl acrylate, and hexacosenyl acrylate. 6. The golf ball of claim 4 , wherein the at least one methacrylate ester is selected from the group consisting of methyl methacrylate, ethyl methacrylate, propyl methacrylate, butyl methacrylate, pentyl methacrylate, lauryl methacrylate, isopropyl methacrylate, allyl methacrylate, 2-ethylhexyl methacrylate, tridecyl methacrylate, hexadecenyl methacrylate, octadecyl methacrylate, and hexacosyl methacrylate. 7. The golf ball of claim 4 , wherein the polybutadiene rubber has a 1,4 cis-bond content of at least 40 percent. 8. A golf ball having at least one layer formed from a composition comprising: a blend of a polybutadiene rubber, an ionomer, and at least one acrylate or methacrylate ester, wherein the acrylate ester has general formula (I) and the methacrylate ester has general formula (II): where R is a straight, branched, or cyclic, saturated, unsaturated, or polyunsaturated, carbon chain having from 1 to 26 carbon atoms, and wherein the acrylate or methacrylate ester is present in the blend in an amount of about 10 phr to about 50 phr. 9. The golf ball of claim 8 , wherein the polybutadiene rubber is present in the blend in an amount of from about 5 wt % to about 90 wt %, the ionomer is present in the blend in an amount of from about 5 wt % to about 90 wt %, and the acrylate or methacrylate ester is present in the blend in an amount of from about 10 wt % to 40 wt %, based on the total weight of the blend.
