A profile insert for a meter roller of an agricultural metering system includes a flute and a recess positioned adjacent to one another along a circumferential axis of the profile insert. The flute and the recess are configured to meter flowable particulate material from a storage tank to a material distribution system via rotation of the profile insert. The profile insert also includes at least one locking element configured to substantially block circumferential rotation of the profile insert relative to a spindle. In addition, the profile insert is configured to extend about only a portion of a circumference of the spindle.

The invention claimed is: 1. A profile insert for a meter roller of an agricultural metering system, comprising: a flute and a recess positioned adjacent to one another along a circumferential axis of the profile insert, wherein the flute and the recess are configured to meter flowable particulate material from a storage tank to a material distribution system via rotation of the profile insert; and at least one locking element configured to substantially block circumferential rotation of the profile insert relative to a spindle; wherein the profile insert is configured to extend about only a portion of a circumference of the spindle. 2. The profile insert of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a longitudinal extension configured to engage an opening in a ring of the spindle. 3. The profile insert of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a first longitudinal extension on a first longitudinal side of the profile insert and a second longitudinal extension on a second longitudinal side of the profile insert, opposite the first longitudinal side, the first longitudinal extension is configured to engage an opening in a first ring of the spindle, and the second longitudinal extension is configured to engage an opening in a second ring of the spindle. 4. The profile insert of claim 3 , wherein the first longitudinal extension is profiled, the second longitudinal extension is substantially flat, or a combination thereof. 5. The profile insert of claim 1 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a protrusion extending inwardly along a radial axis, and the protrusion is configured to engage a recess in the spindle extending inwardly along the radial axis. 6. The profile insert of claim 1 , wherein the profile insert comprises a first coupling element configured to engage a second coupling element of a second profile insert to couple the profile insert and the second profile insert to one another. 7. The profile insert of claim 6 , wherein the first coupling element comprises a protrusion, and the second coupling element comprises a recess. 8. A meter roller for an agricultural metering system, comprising: a spindle configured to be driven in rotation; and a profile insert extending about only a portion of a circumference of the spindle, wherein the profile insert has at least one locking element configured to substantially block circumferential rotation of the profile insert relative to the spindle, the profile insert has a flute and a recess positioned adjacent to one another along a circumferential axis of the profile insert, and the flute and the recess are configured to meter flowable particulate material from a storage tank to a material distribution system via rotation of the profile insert. 9. The meter roller of claim 8 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a longitudinal extension, the spindle comprises a ring having an opening, and the longitudinal extension is configured to engage the opening. 10. The meter roller of claim 8 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a first longitudinal extension on a first longitudinal side of the profile insert and a second longitudinal extension on a second longitudinal side of the profile insert, opposite the first longitudinal side, the spindle comprises a first ring having an opening and a second ring having an opening, the first longitudinal extension is configured to engage the opening in the first ring, and the second longitudinal extension is configured to engage the opening in the second ring. 11. The meter roller of claim 10 , wherein the first longitudinal extension is profiled, the second longitudinal extension is substantially flat, or a combination thereof. 12. The meter roller of claim 8 , wherein the at least one locking element comprises a protrusion extending inwardly along a radial axis, the spindle has a recess extending inwardly along the radial axis, and the protrusion is configured to engage the recess. 13. The meter roller of claim 8 , wherein the profile insert comprises a first coupling element configured to engage a second coupling element of a second profile insert to couple the profile insert and the second profile insert to one another. 14. The meter roller of claim 13 , wherein the first coupling element comprises a protrusion and the second coupling element comprises a recess.
