Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Aspects of the present invention relate to techniques for providing a user with access to a service provided by a cloud infrastructure system based on an existing service. A user may be provided with a clone subscription based on a base subscription to an existing service provided by the cloud infrastructure system. A clone subscription can provide the user with an environment (e.g., a service) that is designated for one use (e.g., development and testing) different from another use (e.g., production) designed for a base subscription. Changes made to a base subscription may be propagated to the clone subscription based on rules. A clone subscription can be modified to vary the clone configuration independently from the base configuration.

First claim

That which is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: providing multiple services in a service infrastructure system; enabling, by the service infrastructure system, a customer to access a first service in the multiple services via a base subscription; receiving, by the service infrastructure system, a request by the customer to access a second service; establishing, by the service infrastructure system, in response to the request, a clone subscription that is cloned from the base subscription, the cloned subscription enabling the customer to access the second service that is cloned from the first service; generating a data structure for storing configuration for the clone subscription; creating, by the service infrastructure system, an association between the base subscription and the clone subscription, the association based upon a set of one or more rules, the set of one or more rules controlling how a change made to configuration for the base subscription is propagated to the configuration for the clone subscription, wherein the set of one or more rules comprises a first rule identifying a condition based upon one or more criteria, and wherein the condition further identifies a numerical threshold based upon one or more metrics; detecting, by the service infrastructure system, a change to the configuration for the base subscription; in response to detecting the change, determining whether the condition of the first rule is satisfied; and upon determining that the condition of the first rule is satisfied based on the one or more metrics satisfying the numerical threshold, modifying the configuration for the clone subscription per the first rule, the modifying comprising modifying data stored in the data structure. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: establishing, based on information included in the request, the clone subscription; wherein the information included in the request includes at least one of: a type of the second service, a type of use intended for the second service, or one or more requirements for the second service. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein the set of one or more rules indicate that the second service is a clone of the first service; and wherein the second service is established based on the set of one or more rules. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein creating an association between the base subscription and the clone subscription includes associating a life cycle of the base subscription with a life cycle of the clone subscription. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein: the change to the configuration of the base subscription comprises changing a life cycle of the first service; and modifying the configuration for the clone subscription comprises changing the life cycle of the second service based on the change of the life cycle of the first service. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the change to the configuration of the base subscription comprises adding a first resource component for provisioning of the first service, the change to the configuration of the base subscription being changed based on a request from the customer; and modifying the configuration for the clone subscription comprises adding a second resource component for provisioning of the second service, the addition of the second resource component being based on the addition of the first resource component for provisioning of the first service. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the services include a Java® service, a customer relationship management (CRM) service, or a human capital management (HCM) service. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating a data structure for the base subscription, wherein the data structure for the base subscription indicates a plurality of clone subscriptions for the customer; and wherein the plurality of clone subscriptions are associated with a plurality of types of uses different from a type of use associated with the base subscription. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein: the change to the configuration of the base subscription comprises enabling a first resource component for provisioning of the first service; and modifying the configuration for the clone subscription comprises disabling the first resource component for provisioning of the second service. 10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more metrics comprises at least one of: a number of users granted access to at least one of the first service or the second service, a demand for at least one of the first service or the second service, or a measurement of one or more resources provisioned by the service infrastructure system for at least one of the first service or the second service. 11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the condition further identifies an operation performed on the configuration for the base subscription; wherein the condition is satisfied when the identified operation is performed on the configuration for the base subscription. 12. A system comprising: at least one processor; and a memory operatively coupled with the at least one processor, the at least one processor executing computer code stored in the memory for: providing multiple services in a service infrastructure system; enabling a customer to access a first service in the multiple services via a base subscription; receiving a request by the customer to access a second service; establishing, in response to the request, a clone subscription that is cloned from the base subscription, the cloned subscription enabling the customer to access the second service that is cloned from the first service; generating a data structure for storing configuration for the clone subscription; creating, by the service infrastructure system, an association between the base subscription and the clone subscription, the association based upon a set of one or more rules, the set of one or more rules controlling how a change made to configuration for the base subscription is propagated to the configuration for the clone subscription, wherein the set of one or more rules comprises a first rule identifying a condition based upon one or more criteria, and wherein the condition further identifies a numerical threshold based upon one or more metrics; detecting a change to the first service, wherein the change to the configuration for the base subscription; in response to detecting the change, determining whether the condition of the first rule is satisfied; and upon determining that the condition of the first rule is satisfied based on the one or more metrics satisfying the numerical threshold, modifying the configuration for the clone subscription per the first rule, the modifying comprising modifying data stored in the data structure. 13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the at least one processor further executes the computer code stored in the memory for: receiving, from a computing device associated with the customer, data indicating a second rule in the set of one or more rules. 14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the set of one or more rules including the first rule identifying the condition based upon the one or more criteria is included in the data structure for the clone subscription. 15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the one or more criteria comprises satisfying a threshold defined based on a first operation performed on the configuration of the base subscription; wherein the at least one processor further executes the computer code stored in the memory for: determining, from a set of candidate operations and based on the first operation performed on the configuration for the base subscription, a
