Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Audio/video (A/V) recording and communication devices according to the present embodiments comprise a processor, a motion sensor, and a camera. In various embodiments, the A/V recording and communication devices are configured to reduce latency and/or to reduce false positive indications of motion.

First claim

What is claimed is: 1. An audio/video (AN) recording and communication device comprising: one or more processors; a plurality of motion sensors; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving, at a first time, one or more first signals generated by one or more of the plurality of motion sensors; determining a first number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected an object at the first time based at least in part on the one or more first signals; receiving, at a second time, one or more second signals generated by one or more of the plurality of motion sensors; determining a second number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the second time based at least in part on the one or more second signals; comparing the first number of the plurality of motion sensors to the second number of the plurality of the motion sensors; upon determining that the first number of the plurality of motion sensors is less than the second number of the plurality of motion sensors, generating an alert signal; and transmitting the alert signal to a client device. 2. The A/V recording and communication device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of motion sensors comprise passive infrared (PIR) sensors. 3. The AN recording and communication device of claim 1 , wherein: the plurality of motion sensors includes a first motion sensor and a second motion sensor; the one or more first signals includes a third signal from the first motion sensor and a fourth signal from the second motion sensor; the determining the first number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the first time comprises: comparing a magnitude of the third signal to a threshold value; comparing a magnitude of the fourth signal to the threshold value; and upon determining that only one of the magnitude of the third signal or the magnitude of the fourth signal is greater than the threshold value, determining that the first number of the plurality of motion sensors is one; the one or more second signals includes a fifth signal from the first motion sensor and a sixth signal from the second motion sensor; and the determining the second number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the second time comprises: comparing a magnitude of the fifth signal to the threshold value; comparing a magnitude of the sixth signal to the threshold value; and upon determining that the magnitude of the fifth signal and the magnitude of the sixth signal are both greater than the threshold value, determining that the second number of the plurality of motion sensors is two. 4. An audio/video (A/V) recording and communication device comprising: one or more processors; a plurality of motion sensors; and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising: receiving, at a first time, one or more first signals generated by one or more of the plurality of motion sensors; determining a first number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected an object at the first time based at least in part on the one or more first signals; receiving, at a second time, one or more second signals generated by one or more of the plurality of motion sensors; determining a second number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the second time based at least in part on the one or more second signals; comparing the first number of the plurality of motion sensors to the second number of the plurality of the motion sensors; and upon determining that the first number of the plurality of motion sensors is greater than the second number of the plurality of motion sensors, refraining from generating an alert signal. 5. The A/V recording and communication device of claim 4 , wherein: the plurality of motion sensors includes a first motion sensor and a second motion sensor; the one or more first signals includes a third signal from the first motion sensor and a fourth signal from the second motion sensor; the determining the first number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the first time comprises: comparing a magnitude of the third signal to a threshold value; comparing a magnitude of the fourth signal to the threshold value; and upon determining that the magnitude of the third signal and the magnitude of the fourth signal are both greater than the threshold value, determining that the first number of the plurality of motion sensors is two; the one or more second signals includes a fifth signal from the first motion sensor and a sixth signal from the second motion sensor; and the determining the second number of the plurality of motion sensors that detected the object at the second time comprises: comparing a magnitude of the fifth signal to the threshold value; comparing a magnitude of the sixth signal to the threshold value; and upon determining that only one of the magnitude of the third signal and the magnitude of the fourth signal is less than the threshold value, determining that the second number of the plurality of motion sensors is two. 6. The A/V recording and communication device of claim 4 , wherein the plurality of motion sensors comprises passive infrared (PIR) sensors. 7. A method for an audio/video (A/V) recording and communication device including one or more processors, a first motion sensor, and a second motion sensor, the method comprising: receiving, at a first time, a first signal generated by the first motion sensor and a second signal generated by the second motion sensor; comparing the first signal and the second signal to a threshold value; receiving, at a second time, a third signal generated by the first motion sensor and a fourth signal generated by the second motion sensor; comparing the third signal and the fourth signal to the threshold value; upon determining that only one of the first signal or the second signal exceeds the threshold value, and both the third signal and the fourth signal exceed the threshold value, generating and transmitting a user alert to a client device; and upon determining that both the first signal and the second signal exceed the threshold value, and only one of the third signal or the fourth signal exceeds the threshold value, refraining from generating a user alert. 8. The A/V recording and communication device of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of motion sensors comprises passive infrared (PIR) sensors.
