A method for re-forming a complete ring network of a plurality of Bluetooth® speakers, after a speaker has left an original ring of speakers, the method including detecting that the speaker has left the ring, and reestablishing the ring without the departed speaker. The detection may include a timeout detection if the speaker left without notice, or include receiving notice that the speaker intends to leave.

We claim: 1. In a group of BLUETOOTH speakers coupled in a ring, where each speaker member of the ring includes a stored address of an upstream BLUETOOTH speaker within the ring and a stored address of a downstream BLUETOOTH speaker within the ring, a method, comprising: detecting that a speaker has created a broken ring by leaving the ring; generating at least one message to determine which speaker left the ring; sending the generated message in a first direction around the ring; establishing an Asynchronous ConnectionLess (ACL) link between a first speaker and a speaker in the ring that was adjacent to the speaker that left the ring; and receiving, at the first speaker, a BLUETOOTH Serial Port Profile (SPP) connection from the speaker in the ring that was adjacent to the speaker that left the ring to connect the first speaker into a second BLUETOOTH ring network having a different number of members than the original ring. 2. The method of claim 1 , in which detecting that a speaker has created a broken ring comprises detecting a timeout condition. 3. The method of claim 1 , in which detecting that a speaker has created a broken ring comprises detecting a timeout condition in a speaker of the ring in a first direction from the speaker that left the ring and detecting a timeout condition in a speaker of the ring in a second direction from the speaker that left the ring. 4. The method of claim 1 , in which generating at least one message to determine which speaker left the ring comprises sending a first type of message in a first direction around the ring. 5. The method of claim 4 , in which the first type of message indicates that at least one speaker in the broken ring is missing a server connection. 6. The method of claim 4 , in which generating at least one message to determine which speaker left the ring comprises sending the first type of message in the first direction around the ring and sending a second type of message in a second direction around the ring. 7. The method of claim 6 , in which the first type of message indicates that at least one speaker in the broken ring is missing a server connection, and in which the second type of message indicates that at least one speaker in the broken ring is missing a client connection. 8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving audio data from an audio device; and forwarding the audio data from the audio device around the second BLUETOOTH ring network via the SPP connection to cause the second BLUETOOTH ring network to play audio associated with the audio data. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving an audio volume signal from an audio device; and forwarding the audio volume signal from the audio device around the second BLUETOOTH ring network via the SPP connection to alter a volume of audio played by the second BLUETOOTH ring network. 10. In a group of BLUETOOTH speakers coupled in a ring, where each speaker member of the ring includes a stored address of an upstream BLUETOOTH speaker within the ring and a stored address of a downstream BLUETOOTH speaker within the ring, a method, comprising: sending, by a speaker leaving the ring of speakers, a message that a speaker in the ring of speakers is leaving the ring of speakers; receiving the message; and in response to receiving the message, establishing an Asynchronous ConnectionLess (ACL) link between a first speaker and a speaker in the ring that was adjacent to the speaker that left the ring, and receiving, at the first speaker, a BLUETOOTH Serial Port Profile (SPP) connection from the speaker in the ring that was adjacent to the speaker that left the ring to connect the first speaker into a second BLUETOOTH ring network having a different number of members than the original ring. 11. The method of claim 10 in which the message that the speaker in the ring of speakers is leaving the ring of speakers is a first message, and further comprising sending, by the speaker leaving the ring of speakers, a second message that a speaker in the ring of speakers is leaving the ring of speakers. 12. The method of claim 11 in which the first message is sent in a first direction around the ring and in which the second message is sent in a second direction around the ring. 13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising, in response to receiving the message, sending an SPP disconnect message to the speaker leaving the ring of speakers. 14. The method of claim 13 , in which the SPP disconnect message is a disconnect SPP server message, the method further comprising, in response to receiving the message, sending a second SPP disconnect message to the speaker leaving the ring of speakers. 15. The method of claim 14 , in which second SPP disconnect message is a disconnect SPP client message. 16. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: receiving audio data from an audio device; and forwarding the audio data from the audio device around the second BLUETOOTH ring network via the SPP connection to cause the second BLUETOOTH ring network to play audio associated with the audio data. 17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising: receiving an audio volume signal from an audio device; and forwarding the audio volume signal from the audio device around the second BLUETOOTH ring network via the SPP connection to alter a volume of audio played by the second BLUETOOTH ring network.
