A lignin derivative that is extracted from biomass and is used for rubber reinforcement or for use in a molding material is provided. Such a lignin derivative has a number average molecular weight of 300 to 2,000, and contains a component that is soluble in a polar organic solvent, in an amount of 80% by mass or more. When such a lignin derivative is incorporated, a lignin resin composition, a rubber composition, or a molding material, all of which have excellent low hysteresis loss characteristics, elastic modulus, or tensile properties, can be obtained. Furthermore, when a component that is thermofusible is used as the soluble component, a lignin resin composition, a rubber composition, or a molding material, all of which have superior aforementioned characteristics, can be obtained.

The invention claimed is: 1. A lignin derivative extracted from biomass and used for rubber reinforcement or for use in a molding material, the lignin derivative containing a soluble component in a polar organic solvent in an amount of 95% by mass or more and an insoluble component in a polar organic solvent in an amount of 1 to 5% by mass, and the soluble component having a number average molecular weight of 300 to 2,000. 2. The lignin derivative according to claim 1 , wherein the polar organic solvent is acetone. 3. The lignin derivative according to claim 1 , wherein the number average molecular weight of the soluble component is 300 to 750. 4. The lignin derivative according to claim 1 , wherein the softening temperature of the soluble component is 80° C. to 160° C. 5. The lignin derivative according to claim 1 , wherein the lignin derivative is extracted by cooking biomass by means of an organosolv process using a chemical agent including an organic solvent. 6. The lignin derivative according to claim 5 , wherein the organic solvent includes at least one of an alcohol, a ketone, and an ether. 7. The lignin derivative according to claim 5 , wherein the organic solvent includes a lower alcohol. 8. The lignin derivative according to claim 7 , wherein the lignin derivative is further purified by using an another organic solvent including acetone. 9. A lignin resin composition comprising: the lignin derivative according to claim 1 ; and a resin material. 10. The lignin resin composition according to claim 9 , wherein the resin material includes a phenolic resin. 11. The lignin resin composition according to claim 10 , wherein the phenolic resin includes at least one of a cashew-modified phenolic resin, an alkyl-modified phenolic resin, and a cashew resin. 12. A rubber composition comprising: the lignin derivative according to claim 1 ; and a rubber material. 13. The rubber composition according to claim 12 , wherein the rubber material includes at least one of natural rubber, butadiene rubber, and styrene-butadiene rubber. 14. The rubber composition according to claim 12 , further comprising a crosslinking agent and/or a filler. 15.
