Official abstract text for this publication.
A system and method of logging and replay among heterogeneous devices includes one or more shared services including a replay service, a processor for executing the shared services, and a shared interface for providing access to the shared services. The replay service selects one or more logs for playback, emulates one or more playback devices, each of the playback devices being associated with a respective one of the logs, extracts one or more log entries from each of the logs, recreates one or more recreated service requests for the one or more shared services based on information associated with each of the log entries, and initiates the recreated service requests. In some embodiments, the system and method further include a logging service to create new log entries based on new service requests, associate the new log entries with a corresponding timestamp, and record the new log entries.

What is claimed is: 1. A method of logging and replay, the method comprising: selecting a log for playback; emulating a playback device, the playback device being associated with the log; extracting a first log entry from the log; recreating a first recreated service request for a shared service based on information associated with the first log entry; exchanging one or more synchronization messages with a live device or a simulated device; estimating clock skew and latency based on information associated with the one or more synchronization messages; adjusting timing and sequencing of the first recreated service request based on the estimated clock skew and latency and sending, via a shared interface, the first recreated service request to the shared service to recreate an event associated with the first log entry according to the adjusted timing and sequencing. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: receiving a logging parameter for a logging service; creating a second log entry based on the logging parameter and information associated with a second service request received by the shared service; associating the second log entry with a timestamp; and recording the second log entry in a recording log. 3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising: adjusting the timestamp based on the estimated clock skew and latency. 4. A logging and replay device comprising: shared services including a replay service; a processor configured to execute the shared services; and a shared interface configured to provide access to the shared services; wherein the replay service is configured to: select a log for playback; emulate a playback device corresponding to the log; extract a first log entry from the log; recreate a recreated first service request for the shared services based on information associated with the first log entry; exchange one or more synchronization messages with a live device or a simulated device; estimate clock skew and latency based on information associated with the one or more synchronization messages; adjust timing and sequencing of the first recreated service request based on the estimated clock skew and latency; and send the recreated first service request to the shared services to recreate an event associated with the first log entry according to the adjusted timing and sequencing. 5. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein: the replay service is further configured to time and sequence the first recreated service request based on a timestamp associated with the first log entry. 6. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein: the shared services include a blackboard service; the first log entry is associated with a data update; and the data update is recreated by generating a data update request and sending the data update request to the blackboard service. 7. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein: the shared services include an alert service; the first log entry is associated with a recorded event; and the recorded event is recreated by generating an alert request and sending the alert request to the alert service. 8. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein the shared services include a registration service configured to receive a registration request from a live device, a simulated device, or both a live device and a simulated device. 9. The logging and replay device of claim 1 wherein one or more of the shared services are configured to receive and respond to a live service request from a live device. 10. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein one or more of the shared services are configured to receive and respond to a simulated service request from a simulated device. 11. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein the shared services include a service for simulating a second device. 12. The logging and replay device of claim 1 wherein the first recreated service request and a response corresponding to the first recreated service request is played back to a recreation engine configured to create a virtual recreation of the playback device. 13. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein: the shared services include a logging service configured to: receive a logging parameter; create a second log entry based on the logging parameter and information associated with a second service request received by the shared services; associate the second log entry with a corresponding timestamp; and record the second log entry in a recording log. 14. The logging and replay device of claim 4 wherein the replay service is further configured to perform one or more of the following: recreate the first service request for the shared services based on one or more inputs received from an operator console; and alter timing of the first service request based on the one or more inputs received from the operator console. 15. A logging and replay system, the system comprising: a first device and a second device, the first and second devices being heterogeneous; and a logging and replay server comprising a processor configured to execute shared services and provide a log and a shared interface, the shared services comprising a replay service, the logging and replay server being coupled to the first and second devices using the shared interface; wherein the replay service is configured to: emulate a playback device associated with the log; extract a first log entry from the log; recreate a first recreated service request for the shared services based on information associated with the first log entry; exchange one or more synchronization messages with a live device or a simulated device; estimate clock skew and latency based on information associated with the one or more synchronization messages; adjust timing and sequencing of the first recreated service request based on the estimated clock skew and latency; and send the first recreated service request to the shared services to recreate an event associated with the first log entry according to the adjusted timing and sequencing; wherein the shared services are configured to receive and respond to a second service request from the first device or the second device. 16. The system of claim 15 wherein the first and second devices are each selected from a group consisting of a live device and a simulated device. 17. The system of claim 15 , further comprising: a recreation engine; wherein the recreation engine is configured to: receive the first recreated service request, a response to the first recreated service request, the second service request, and a response to the second service request; and create a virtual recreation of the playback device and the first and second devices. 18. The system of claim 15 wherein: the shared services include a logging service; and the logging service is configured to: receive a logging parameter; create a second log entry based on the logging parameter and information associated with a second service request received by the shared services; associate the second log entry with a corresponding timestamp; and record the second log entry in a recording log. 19. The system of claim 15 wherein the first device is a live device providing a simulation of live behavior of the first device.
