Official abstract text for this publication.
An abrasive grain is disclosed and may include a body. The body may define a length (l), a height (h), and a width (w). In a particular aspect, the length is greater than or equal to the height and the height is greater than or equal to the width. Further, in a particular aspect, the body may include a primary aspect ratio defined by the ratio of length:height of at least about 2:1. The body may also include an upright orientation probability of at least about 50%.

What is claimed is: 1. A shaped abrasive particle, comprising: a body having a central portion; at least four radial arms extending outwardly from the central portion along the length of the central portion and wherein the radial arms are triangular. 2. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , further comprising a fifth radial arm extending outwardly from the central portion along the length of the central portion. 3. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 2 , further comprising a sixth radial arm extending outwardly from the central portion along the length of the central portion. 4. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the radial arms are equally spaced around the central portion. 5. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 4 , wherein the central portion and the radial arms define a star shaped first end face and a star shaped second end face. 6. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body is an extruded body. 7. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a length (l), a height (h), and a width (w), a base surface end and an upper surface and a side surface extending between the base surface and the upper surface and wherein the body comprises a primary aspect ratio defined by the ratio of length:height of at least 2:1. 8. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 7 , wherein the primary aspect ratio is within a range of about 2:1 to about 10:1. 9. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 7 , wherein the body is overlying a backing and the length of the body is substantially parallel to a plane of the backing. 10. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 7 , wherein the side surface comprises a fractured region intersecting at least a portion of an edge defining the base surface. 11. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 10 , wherein the fractured region defines irregularly shaped protrusions and grooves extending from the base surface. 12. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the shaped abrasive article has an upright orientation probability of at least 50%. 13. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body consists essentially of alumina. 14. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body consists essentially of a polycrystalline material. 15. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 14 , wherein the polycrystalline material comprises abrasive grains. 16. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 15 , wherein the abrasive grains have an average grain size within a range of at least 0.01 microns and not greater than 0.5 microns. 17. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the shaped abrasive particle is part of a batch of particulate material including a first portion including a first type of shaped abrasive particle and a second portion including a second type of shaped abrasive particle, wherein the first and second types of shaped abrasive particles having different two-dimensional shapes. 18. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the shaped abrasive particle is part of a fixed abrasive article. 19. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 18 , wherein the fixed abrasive article comprises a coated abrasive article or a bonded abrasive article. 20. The shaped abrasive particle of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises an opening extending into the interior of the body.
