What is claimed is: 1. A wearable article comprising: a first adhesive pad attached to a first portion of the wearable article, wherein the first adhesive pad includes: a backing layer; and an elastic planar layer including an adhering surface, wherein a side of the elastic planar layer opposing the adhering surface is applied to the backing layer, wherein the backing layer has a higher in-plane stiffness than the elastic planar layer; and a second portion of the wearable article, wherein the adhering surface of the first adhesive pad is selectively attachable to the second portion of the wearable article. 2. The wearable article of claim 1 , further comprising a second adhesive pad attached to the second portion of the wearable article, wherein the second adhesive pad includes: a backing layer; and an elastic planar layer including an adhering surface, wherein a side of the elastic planar layer opposing the adhering surface is applied to the backing layer, wherein the backing layer has a higher in-plane stiffness than the elastic planar layer, and wherein the adhering surface of the first adhesive pad is selectively attachable to the adhering surface of the second adhesive pad. 3. The wearable article of claim 2 , wherein the first adhesive pad and the second adhesive pad form a seal when attached to one another. 4. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the wearable article is an article of footwear. 5. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the wearable article is an article of clothing. 6. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the first portion and the second portion of the wearable article form at least a portion of a closure of the wearable article. 7. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein when the adhering surface of the first adhesive pad is attached to the second portion, the wearable article is in a closed state. 8. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the first adhesive pad is capable of multiple cycles of closure and release relative to the second portion. 9. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the backing layer comprises a fabric, film, foil, sheet, laminate, panel, or pane. 10. The wearable article of claim 1 , wherein the elastic planar layer of the first adhesive pad includes an elastomeric material.
