Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Intelligent modular battery pack assemblies and associated charging and docking systems are disclosed. In one embodiment a modular battery pack assembly may include an outer casing assembly, a thermally conductive structural housing element configured to house a battery assembly in an interior volume, a lid element configured to cover the opening in the thermally conductive structural housing element and mechanically strengthen the thermally conductive structural housing element, and a circuit element disposed to electrically couple the battery cell to a battery-powered device and provide viral data transfer between the battery and a coupled device.

The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the one or more contact assemblies comprise a plurality of contact assemblies, and wherein a first subset of the plurality of contact assemblies provides an electrical power connection between the battery assembly and the first coupled battery-powered device and a second subset of the plurality of contact assemblies provides a data connection between the battery assembly and the first coupled battery-powered device for transferring processor-executable code to the battery-powered tool device. 3. The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the PCB includes a battery control element comprising an electronic circuit programmed to provide information on a battery assembly state and/or operating condition. 4. The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the memory and processing element of the battery are programmed to transfer data stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery, including battery charge and discharge data, to the non-transitory memory of the first coupled battery-powered tool device. 5. The battery enclosure of claim 4 , wherein the memory and processing element of the battery are programmed to transfer data stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery to a non-transitory memory of a second coupled battery powered tool device different from the first coupled battery-powered tool device. 6. The battery enclosure of claim 5 , wherein the memory and processing element of the battery are programmed to transfer processor-executable code stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery to a non-transitory memory of a third coupled device, different than the first coupled battery-powered tool device and the second coupled battery-powered tool device, to reprogram executable code in the third coupled device. 7. The battery enclosure of claim 4 , wherein the memory and processing element of the battery are programmed to receive data from the non-transitory memory of the first coupled battery-powered tool device and store the received data in the non-transitory memory of the battery. 8. The battery enclosure of claim 7 , wherein the memory and processing element of the battery are programmed to transfer the data received from the non-transitory memory of the first coupled battery-powered tool device to a non-transitory memory of a second coupled device-different from the first coupled battery powered device. 9. The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the first coupled battery-powered device is a utility locator and processor-executable code stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery is transferred to a non-transitory memory of the utility locator to reprogram executable code in the utility locator for subsequent execution thereon. 10. The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the first coupled battery-powered tool device is a camera control unit (CCU) of a video inspection system and processor-executable code stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery is transferred to a non-transitory memory of the CCU to reprogram executable code in the CCU for execution thereon. 11. The battery enclosure of claim 1 , wherein the first coupled battery-powered tool device is a video camera system and processor-executable code stored in the non-transitory memory of the battery is transferred to a non-transitory memory of the video camera system to reprogram executable code in the video camera system for execution thereon. 12.
