Official abstract text for this publication.
A communications connection system includes an adapter module defining at least first and second ports and at least one media reading interface mounted at one of the ports. The first adapter module is configured to receive a fiber optic connector at each port. Some type of connectors may be formed as duplex connector arrangements. Some types of adapters may include ports without media reading interfaces. Some types of media reading interfaces include contact members having three contact sections.

The invention claimed is: 1. An adapter block assembly comprising: a plurality of MPO adapter assemblies aligned in a row, the MPO adapter assemblies including a first MPO adapter assembly, each MPO adapter assembly defining a first port accessible from a first port end and a second port accessible from a second port end that is opposite the first port end, the first port being configured to receive a respective first multi-fiber connector plug and the second port being configured to receive a respective second multi-fiber connector plug, each MPO adapter assembly defining first and second recesses at opposite ends of the MPO adapter assembly; a plurality of first media reading interfaces each disposed at a respective one of the first recesses, each first media reading interface being configured to engage a memory storage device of the respective first multi-fiber connector plug; a plurality of second media reading interfaces each disposed at a respective one of the second recesses, each second media reading interface being configured to engage a memory storage device of the respective second multi-fiber connector plug; a first circuit board extending across the row of MPO adapter assemblies, the first circuit board including contact pads aligned with the first media reading interfaces; and a second circuit board including contact pads aligned with the second media reading interface of the first MPO adapter assembly. 2. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein each first recess is aligned with one of the second recesses. 3. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first media reading interfaces each include a plurality of contact members. 4. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein each first media reading interface includes four contact members. 5. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein the contact members are disposed in staggered positions. 6. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein the contact members are laterally aligned. 7. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein the contact members are held together by a body separate from the respective adapter assembly. 8. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein the contact members cooperate in pairs to engage the respective memory storage device. 9. The adapter block assembly of claim 3 , wherein the second media reading interfaces each include a plurality of contact members. 10. The adapter block assembly of claim 9 , wherein each second media reading interface includes four contact members. 11. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second media reading interfaces each include a plurality of contact members. 12. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein each first port is configured to receive the respective first multi-fiber connector plug at a first rotational orientation and each second port is configured to receive the respective second multi-fiber connector plug at a second rotational orientation that is opposite the first rotational orientation. 13. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of MPO adapter assemblies includes eight MPO adapter assemblies. 14. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein each recess of the MPO adapter assemblies extends more than half-way between the first and second port ends. 15. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the contact pads of the first circuit board include aligned pairs of contact pads. 16. The adapter block assembly of claim 15 , wherein the first media reading interfaces each include a plurality of contact members, wherein each contact member aligns with a respective pair of contact pads. 17. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein each MPO adapter assembly includes a plurality of alignment pegs extending outwardly from an exterior surface of the MPO adapter assembly. 18. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first circuit board is electrically coupled to the second circuit board via a fixed connector. 19. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the first circuit board is electrically coupled to the second circuit board via a ribbon cable arrangement. 20. The adapter block assembly of claim 1 , wherein the second circuit board extends across the row of MPO adapter assemblies, the second circuit board including contact pads aligned with the second media reading interface of each MPO adapter assembly.
