Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A system for interactive gaming among a plurality of players includes a host computer system and a plurality of player terminals communicably coupled to the host computer system via a network. The plurality of player terminals are located at a plurality of licensed gaming locations. The plurality of player terminals are configured to engage the plurality of players in a common interactive game operated by the host computer system. The plurality of player terminals include means for dispensing player winnings from the player terminal.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: initiating an interactive gaming session of an interactive game; monitoring a cash and credit interaction area for value supplied by a player; generating, in response to detection of the value supplied by the player, a credit in exchange for the value received via the cash and credit interaction area; monitoring a player interaction area for a bet having a betting value; deducting, upon detecting the bet received via the player interaction area, the betting value from the credit; displaying, on a display, action from the interactive game; monitoring the player interaction area for interactions from the player to control gaming action of an interactive game, dynamically changing, during the interactive game, interactive controls displayed on the player interaction area based, at least in part, on a state of the interactive game created by the gaming action; evaluating, using a collusion detection system, players participating in the interactive gaming session to determine gambling rule violations by: review of the bets and interactions received via the player interaction area in response to the gaming action, review a frequency of common play between two or more of the players over a period of time, and evaluating one or more rules to determine whether the player can continue to play the interactive game; barring, upon detection of gambling rule violations, one or more of the players from the interactive gaming session; holding, upon detection of gambling rule violations, the value received from the player until resolution; and awarding, in response to no detection of gambling rule violations, value to the player. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein awarding value to the player includes transmitting, in response to detecting completion of the interactive game, a signal to a host computer system identifying a payout amount. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the value supplied by the player in the cash and credit interaction area is received via a loyalty card acceptor, a bill accepter, a ticket accepter, a ticket dispenser, or a coin accepter. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the interactive game is a multi-player game and the method further comprising: connecting multiple player terminals, wherein at least one of the multiple player terminals is a wireless terminal; managing the interactive gaming session to allow the multiple player terminals to participate in a common game; evaluating proximity of the multiple player terminals to one another; and restricting play in the common game for at least one player terminal from the multiple player terminals that is in proximity to another one of the multiple player terminals. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying a list of multiple interactive games capable of being played in the interactive gaming session; presenting, on a display, the list of multiple interactive games; monitoring player interactions to detect a selection of one of the multiple interactive games in the list; transmitting a selection signal to a host computer system identifying the selection; determining whether the player is in a licensed location for the selection; allowing game play when the player is determined to be located with the licensed location; and preventing the player from playing the selection when the player is determined to not be located with the licensed location. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising determining whether a player terminal is located within a licensed gaming location and allowing game play only when the player terminal is determined to be located within the licensed gaming location. 7. A system comprising: means for receiving value from a player; means for generating a credit in exchange for value received; means for receiving a bet from the player having a betting value; means for deducting, upon detecting the bet, the betting value from the credit; means for receiving interactions from the player during an interactive game that requires at least one input from the player after the interactive game has started; means for displaying action from the interactive game; means for monitoring the player interaction area for a bet having a betting value; means for presenting interactive controls on a touch screen on a panel below the means for displaying action from the interactive game, wherein the interactive controls change during game play depending on the interactive game and on a state of the interactive game that depends at least in part on the action in the interactive game; and means for monitoring for gambling rule violations or unusual activity taken by the player, wherein the unusual activity taken by the player includes frequent occurrences of two or more players playing together; and means for evaluating the gambling rule violations or unusual activity taken by the player to determine whether the player can continue play of the interactive game. 8. The system of claim 7 , further comprising: means for determining whether the player is located within a licensed gaming location; and means for not allowing game play only when the player is determined to be located outside of the licensed gaming location. 9. A player terminal comprising: one or more processors; a cash and credit area configured to receive value from a player, wherein the cash and credit interaction area includes at least one of a loyalty card acceptor, a bill accepter, a ticket accepter, a ticket dispenser, a token accepter, or a coin accepter; a display to depict action from an interactive game that requires at least one input from the player during a course of the interactive game, a player interaction area that is— configured to receive bets from the player, configured to receive, from the player, a selection of the interactive game from multiple interactive games that can be played on the player terminal; configured to receive a selection of game limits from the player; and configured to receive interactions from the player to play the interactive game; and a memory having instructions stored thereon that when executed by the one or more processors cause the player terminal to: monitor for the selection of the interactive game from the multiple interactive games; upon receiving the selection, retrieve from a game storage arrangement computer-executable code that can be executed to control the interactive game; generate a credit in exchange for value received via the cash and credit area; monitor the player interaction area for a bet having a betting value; deduct, upon detecting the bet received via the player interaction area, the betting value from the credit; monitor the player interaction area for interactions from the player; dynamically change interactive buttons depending on the interactive game selected by the player via the player interaction area and on a state of the interactive game created, at least in part, by the interactions from the player during the course of the interactive game; monitor the interactive game to detect unusual activity taken by the player, wherein the player terminal monitors the interactive game to detect unusual activity by reviewing the interactions from the player received via the player interaction area; and wherein the unusual activity taken by the player includes frequent occurrences of two or more players playing together; and determine, in response to detecting completion of the interactive game, a payout amount. 10. The player terminal of claim 9 , wherein the interactive game includes a card game and wherein the display to depict action from the interactive game includes a virtual
