Disclosed herein is a system to validate information about a user, or users, derived from publicly-accessible data. The system comprises a validation system that uses private data about the user to validate the user information derived from the publicly-accessible data. The validation system may receive a validation request in connection with an inconclusive result derived from the publicly-accessible data.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method comprising: identifying, by an online content system server, a user interest for a user using publicly-accessible data about the user, the identifying comprising identifying a strength of the user interest using the publicly-accessible data about the user; generating, by the online content system server, a request to confirm the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user; submitting, by the online content system server, a request to a private data store of an online service provider, the private data store comprising data about online activities of the plurality of users in connection with the online service provider; receiving, by the online content system server and from the private data store, a response to the request, the response indicating a validity of the user interest derived from the publicly-accessible data about the user, the received response generated using private data about the user stored in the private data store, the received response indicating the validity of the user interest, identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user, without divulging any of the private data used to make a determination of the validity of the user interest; generating, by the online content system server, a content presentation personalized for the user, generation of the content presentation using the received indication of the validity of the user interest, generated using the private data about the user, and the identified strength of the user interest determined using the publicly-accessible data; and providing, by the online content system server and to the user via a client computing device and an electronic communications network, the content presentation personalized for the user based on the identified strength of the user interest derived from the publicly-accessible data and on the received response, generated based on the private data about the user, indicating the validity of the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user. 2. The method of claim 1 , the content presentation personalized, for the user, based on the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user and validated using the private data without divulging the private data, comprising digital content related to the user interest. 3. The method of claim 1 , the content presentation personalized, for the user, based on the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user and invalidated using the private data without divulging the private data, excluding digital content related to the user interest. 4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting, by the online content system server, digital advertising content, for the content presentation personalized for the user, using the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user and validated using the private data without divulging the private data, the content presentation comprising a web page being personalized to include the selected digital advertising content. 5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising identifying, by the online content system server, a number of other users, of the plurality of users, having the user interest, of the user identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user and validated using the private data, the content presentation personalized, for the user, comprising a recommendation identifying the number of other users as having at least one user interest similar to the identified user interest. 6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: identifying, by the online content system server, a number of other users, of the plurality of users, having the user interest, of the user identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user and validated using the private data; and selecting, by the online content system server, digital content for the content presentation personalized for the user based on content preferences of the identified number of other users having at least one user interest similar to the identified user interest. 7. The method of claim 6 , the online content system is a social networking system. 8. The method of claim 7 , the publicly-accessible data about the user comprising a user profile for the user from the social networking system. 9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: making, by the online content system server and using the determined strength of the user interest, a determination that the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user is inconclusive before submitting the request to the private data store. 10. The method of claim 1 , the content presentation personalized for the user comprising a web page personalized to include digital content selected for the user using the response received from the private data store. 11. The method of claim 1 , the private data store comprising an electronic messaging data store of an electronic messaging service provider. 12. The method of claim 1 , the response received from the private data store comprising an indication of a strength of the user interest for the user. 13. The method of claim 1 , the online content system is provided by the online content provider. 14. The method of claim 1 , the online content system is provided by an entity from the online content provider. 15. An online content system server comprising: a processor and a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic for execution by the processor, the program logic comprising: identifying logic executed by the processor for identifying a user interest for a user using publicly-accessible data about the user, the identifying comprising identifying a strength of the user interest using the publicly-accessible data about the user; generating logic executed by the processor for generating a request to confirm the user interest identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user; submitting logic executed by the processor for submitting a request to a private data store of an online service provider, the private data store comprising data about online activities of the plurality of users in connection with the online service provider; receiving logic executed by the processor for receiving, from the private data store, a response to the request, the response indicating a validity of the user interest derived from the publicly-accessible data about the user, the received response generated using private data about the user stored in the private data store, the received response indicating the validity of the user interest, identified using the publicly-accessible data about the user, without divulging any of the private data used to make a determination of the validity of the user interest; generating logic executed by the processor for generating a content presentation personalized for the user, generation of the content presentation using the received indication of the validity of the user interest, generated using the private data about the user, and the identified strength of the user interest determined using the publicly-accessible data; and providing logic executed by the processor for providing, to the user via a client computing device and an electronic communications network, the content presentation personalized for the user based on the identified strength of the user interest derived from the publicly-accessible data and on the received response, generated based on the private data about the user, indicating the validit
