A cutter head for an electric hair trimmer generally includes a cutting assembly having a stationary blade, a movable blade, and a follower connected to the movable blade. The electric hair trimmer has a handle with a drive system and an ejection mechanism. The follower is configured for operative connection with the drive system of the handle for oscillating the movable blade relative to the stationary blade. The cutter head also includes a housing having a tongue configured to provide clearance for the follower when the cutter head is ejected from the handle via the ejection mechanism.

What is claimed is: 1. A cutter head for an electric hair trimmer having a handle with a drive system, a neck comprising an ejection mechanism, said cutter head comprising: a cutting assembly comprising a stationary blade, a movable blade, and a follower connected to the movable blade, wherein the follower is configured for operative connection with the drive system of the handle for oscillating the movable blade relative to the stationary blade; and a housing comprising a top wall, a pair of opposing side walls, and a front wall transversely oriented with respect to the top wall and the side walls, the housing defining an interior compartment, the cutting assembly being located in the interior compartment such that the follower is accessible from an exterior of the housing, the front wall having a tongue, wherein the tongue and the follower extend away from the top wall beyond the pair of opposing side walls, wherein the tongue has a larger profile than that of the follower and extends to a further distance away from the top wall than the follower, and wherein the tongue is configured to provide clearance for the follower such that the follower is provided with adequate clearance for ejection of the cutter head from the handle at an oblique angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the handle without interference from the neck. 2. The cutter head as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the tongue has an arcuate shape. 3. The cutter head as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a clip configured to connect the cutter head to the handle. 4. The cutter head as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the tongue is configured to cover an aperture formed in a front wall of the handle when the cutter head is connected to the handle. 5. The cutter head as set forth in claim 1 further comprising a tab that is displaceable to permit ejection of the cutter head from the handle. 6. The cutter head as set forth in claim 5 , wherein the housing further comprises a back wall opposite the front wall, wherein the tab extends rearwardly from the back wall to be engageable with a retaining recess defined in the neck. 7. The cutter head as set forth in claim 6 , wherein the tab is displaceable relative to the back wall to permit ejection of the cutter head. 8. The cutter head as set forth in claim 1 , wherein the stationary blade and the movable blade each have a plurality of teeth, the movable blade teeth being maintained in shearing contact with the stationary blade teeth along a shearing plane, the housing comprising a plurality of guard teeth adjacent the movable blade teeth. 9. The cutter head as set forth in claim 8 wherein each guard tooth has a substantially diamond-shaped profile. 10. A cutter head for an electric hair trimmer with a handle comprising an ejection mechanism, said cutter head comprising: a housing for releasably connecting with the handle; a cutting assembly at least partially disposed within the housing; a stationary blade and a movable blade, wherein the stationary blade and the movable blade each have a plurality of teeth, the movable blade teeth being maintained in shearing contact with the stationary blade teeth along a shearing plane; and a plurality of guard teeth adjacent the movable blade teeth, wherein each guard tooth has a substantially diamond shaped profile, and wherein the substantially diamond shaped profile has a pair of sides forming an acutely angled distal tip, wherein a first one of the sides of the acutely angled distal tip is oriented obliquely relative to the shearing plane. 11. The cutter head as set forth in claim 10 wherein the housing comprises a pair of side walls each having a profile, the diamond-shaped profile being completely within the profile of each of the side walls. 12. The cutter head as set forth in claim 11 wherein the side walls extend beyond the movable blade but not beyond the stationary blade. 13. The cutter head as set forth in claim 10 wherein a second one of the sides of the acutely angled distal tip is oriented obliquely relative to the shearing plane. 14. The cutter head as set forth in claim 10 wherein each tooth of the plurality of teeth of the movable blade has a tip, the distal tip being recessed relative to the tip of an associated movable blade tooth and the first one of the sides being oriented parallel to a first imaginary line that is substantially tangent to the tip of the associated movable blade tooth. 15. The cutter head as set forth in claim 14 wherein the first one of the sides is offset from the first imaginary line by 0.2 millimeters (mm). 16. The cutter head as set forth in claim 14 wherein a second imaginary line that is substantially perpendicular to the shearing plane and is tangent to the distal tip is offset relative to the tip of the associated movable blade tooth by 0.5 millimeters (mm) measured in the shearing plane.
