A surgical apparatus for use by a surgeon can include a tray and a plurality of surgical instruments. The tray can have a plurality of structures located on an upper side of the tray for receiving the plurality of surgical instruments. The tray can receive a separate control unit. The tray can also have a fluid reservoir receiver for receiving a bottle or container of fluid, such as balanced salt solution. The fluid reservoir receiver can include one or more features, including, a spike, an air vent, and a light. A separate container can be used to place the bottle or container of fluid into the fluid reservoir receiver on the tray. This separate container can include a collapsible section.

What is claimed is: 1. A surgical apparatus for use by a surgeon during an ophthalmic surgical procedure comprising: a U-shaped tray support having a top support bar; a biological tissue cutter; a tissue illuminator; a surgical tray configured to releasably couple to the top support bar, comprising: a plurality of receiving structures located on an upper side of the tray, wherein the biological tissue cutter and tissue illuminator are removably positioned in a corresponding one of the structures; and a recess for receiving a container of fluid, the recess comprising: a spike for insertion into the container of fluid; and a control unit cartridge, comprising a control unit, wherein the control unit cartridge is releasably coupled to the surgical tray. 2. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the recess further comprises: a light positioned within the recess for shining light through the container of fluid to indicate a fluid level to the surgeon. 3. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the spike comprises a vented spike having a first channel, a second channel, and a hydrophobic filter, the first channel connected to at least one pump via tubing and the second channel connected to the hydrophobic filter to allow air into the second channel. 4. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the tray is electrically coupled to the control unit configured to control an operation of at least one of the plurality of surgical instruments. 5. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the surgical tray is slideably coupled to the tray support. 6. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the control unit comprises batteries to power the control unit during a surgical procedure. 7. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the surgical tray further comprises a pump. 8. The surgical apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the surgical tray further comprises at least one electrical connector configured to connect to at least one of the biological tissue cutter or a tissue illuminator. 9. The surgical apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the light is a light emitting diode (LED). 10. The surgical apparatus of claim 9 , wherein the LED is one of blue, amber, purple, and green. 11. The surgical apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the light is one of blue, amber, purple, and green.
