Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An attachment system can include a plurality of apertures or openings in an attachment platform. The openings can be arranged in a pattern corresponding to a hexagon so that an attachment member for a MOLLE-compatible accessory may be passed through one or more of the openings so as to attach the accessory in a variety of different directions.

First claim

Opening claim text (preview).

What is claimed is: 1. An attachment system comprising a substrate that comprises: a) an attachment platform comprising flexible or non-rigid material configured for load-bearing; and b) a plurality of openings formed in the attachment platform, wherein at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings comprises at least six sides including a first pair of parallel sides, a second pair of parallel sides non-parallel to the first pair, and a third pair of parallel sides non-parallel to the first pair and non-parallel to the second pair, wherein the plurality of openings are arranged in a repeating pattern configured to facilitate attachment of accessories to the attachment platform by weaving through multiple of the openings along any of at least three differing axes that include a first axis oriented perpendicular to the first pair of sides, a second axis oriented perpendicular to the second pair of parallel sides, and a third axis oriented perpendicular to the third pair of parallel sides. 2. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the repeating pattern corresponds to a repeating hexagonal pattern. 3. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the repeating hexagonal pattern corresponds to a hexagon, wherein the plurality of openings are arranged in a pattern to receive an attachment member weaved through multiple openings of the plurality of openings in a direction parallel to a side of the hexagon to attach an accessory to the attachment platform. 4. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the repeating hexagonal pattern corresponds to a hexagon, wherein the plurality of openings are arranged in a pattern to receive an attachment member weaved through multiple openings of the plurality of openings in a direction perpendicular to a side of the hexagon to attach an accessory to the attachment platform. 5. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the flexible or non-rigid material configured for load-bearing comprises at least one of a nylon, a rubber, or a polymer. 6. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the attachment platform is configured for connection with a load-bearing platform that is connected with or comprises at least a portion of at least one of clothing, a garment, pants, a shirt, a jacket, a vest, a girdle, a pack, a pouch, a holster, sheath, ammunition clip, gear, equipment, or accessory thereof. 7. The attachment system of claim 6 , further comprising a backing which is configured to connect with or form part of the load-bearing platform, wherein the attachment platform is connected with the backing. 8. The attachment system of claim 7 , wherein the attachment platform is configured to be connected with the backing by a plurality of connections in which each connection is positioned between adjacent openings of the plurality of openings, the plurality of connections comprising at least one of stitching, bonding, fusing, grommets, or snaps. 9. The attachment system of claim 7 , wherein the attachment platform is connected with the backing by a plurality of connections, the plurality of connections positioned between openings of the plurality of openings and arranged so as to permit passage of an attachment member weaved to attach an accessory to the attachment platform and weaved through multiple openings along any of: the first axis perpendicular to the first pair of parallel sides, the second axis perpendicular to the second pair of parallel sides, or the third axis perpendicular to the third pair of parallel sides. 10. The attachment system of claim 7 , wherein the attachment platform is connected with the backing so as to permit passage of an attachment member weaved to attach an accessory to the attachment platform and weaved through multiple openings along any of: the first axis perpendicular to the first pair of parallel sides, the second axis perpendicular to the second pair of parallel sides, the third axis perpendicular to the third pair of parallel sides, a fourth axis parallel to the first pair of parallel sides, a fifth axis parallel to the second pair of parallel sides, or a sixth axis parallel to the third pair of parallel sides. 11. The attachment system of claim 7 , wherein the backing comprises: a first face facing the attachment platform; and an opposite, second face not facing the attachment platform, wherein the second face not facing the attachment platform comprises loops, openings, features for receiving an attachment member weaved therethrough for attachment of an accessory to the backing along the second face not facing the attachment platform, or some combination thereof. 12. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings has a side-to-side width corresponding to a distance between two parallel sides of said opening, and wherein said side-to-side width is wider than a member width corresponding to a width of an attachment member for weaving to attach an accessory so as to facilitate inserting the attachment member through said opening in a direction parallel to said two parallel sides of said opening to attach said accessory. 13. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings and has a corner-to-corner width corresponding to a distance between two corners positioned on opposite ends of a bisecting axis of said opening, and wherein said corner-to-corner width is wider than a member width corresponding to a width of an attachment member for weaving to attach an accessory so as to facilitate inserting the attachment member through said opening in a direction perpendicular to the bisecting axis to attach said accessory. 14. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings comprising the at least six sides has a side-to-side width and a corner-to-corner width, the side-to-side width corresponding to a distance between one of the pairs of parallel sides, and the corner-to-corner width corresponding to a distance between two corners positioned on opposite ends of a bisecting axis of said at least one of the openings, wherein said at least one of the openings is sized so that at least one of: said side-to-side width is approximately 1 inch (2.54 centimeters), or said corner-to-corner width is approximately 1.14 inches (2.896 centimeters). 15. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of openings are sized and configured to facilitate attachment of MOLLE-compatible accessories to the attachment platform by weaving through multiple of the openings along any of the first axis, second axis, or third axis. 16. A piece of equipment configured for attachment with the attachment system of claim 1 , the piece of equipment comprising: a) a body; and b) an attachment member configured for weaving through at least two of the plurality of openings for attachment of the body to the substrate. 17. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings has a side-to-side width corresponding to a distance between two parallel sides of said opening, and wherein said side-to-side width is wider than a member width corresponding to a width of an attachment member for a MOLLE-compatible accessory so as to facilitate inserting the attachment member through said opening in a direction parallel to said two parallel sides of said opening to attach said MOLLE-compatible accessory. 18. The attachment system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the openings of the plurality of openings has a cor
