The invention relates to a conveyor device ( 10 ) for conveying food products on a plurality of parallel conveyor tracks and for formatting the food products in a specific product format, especially for conveying and formatting stacks or interleaved units made of a plurality of slices of cheese or meat products. It is proposed that the conveyor device ( 10 ) fills a product gap on one of the conveyor tracks incoming on the input side with a food product so that on the output side all parallel conveyor tracks are supplied with the food products. The invention also includes a corresponding method.

The invention claimed is: 1. A conveyor device for conveying food products in stacks or interleaved units made of a plurality of slices of cheese or meat products, the conveyor device comprising: a plurality of parallel conveyor tracks having an input side and an output side, wherein the conveyor device formats the food products in a specific product format on the plurality of parallel conveyor tracks, and wherein the conveyor device fills a product gap on one of the plurality of parallel conveyor tracks incoming on the input side with a food product so that on the output side all parallel conveyor tracks are supplied with the food products; wherein, when an even number of product gaps exist on one of the conveyor tracks, the conveyor device fills the product gaps with a corresponding number of food products from another one of the conveyor tracks that does not have any product gaps such that at least one of the food products are transferred from the conveyor track that does not have any product gaps to the conveyor track that has the product gaps; wherein when there is an odd number of product gaps on one of the conveyor tracks, the conveyor device also fills the product gaps with food products from a product buffer such that at least one of the food products is transferred from the product buffer to the conveyor track that has the product gap; wherein the conveyor device further comprises: a distributor conveyor for selectively distributing the food products incoming on the input side to a main flow or to the product buffer; a buffer conveyor that forms the product buffer for the food products and that is supplied with food products by the distributor conveyor; a main flow conveyor that conveys the main flow of the food products and is selectively supplied with the food products by the distributor conveyor or by the buffer conveyor, wherein the main flow conveyor is arranged downstream of the distributor conveyor in the direction of conveyance; and a transfer device for transferring the food products between the parallel conveyor tracks for filling the product gaps, wherein the shuttle conveyor is arranged downstream of the main flow conveyor in the direction of conveyance. 2. The conveyor device in accordance with claim 1 , wherein the transfer device is a shuttle conveyor. 3. The conveyor device in accordance with claim 2 , wherein the output end of the distributor conveyor is vertically adjustable between the buffer conveyor and the main flow conveyor in order to selectively supply the buffer conveyor or the main flow conveyor with the food products incoming on the input side, and/or such that the shuttle conveyor may be displaced transverse to a direction of conveyance. 4. The conveyor device in accordance with claim 3 , wherein the buffer conveyor is arranged above the main flow conveyor and its output end may be adjusted vertically; such that the output end of the buffer conveyor may be lowered to the main flow conveyor in order to place one of the food products on the main flow conveyor for subsequently filling a product gap; and such that the output end of the buffer conveyor may be raised from the main flow conveyor so that the main flow of food products passing through is not blocked. 5. The conveyor device in accordance with claim 4 , wherein a conveying speed of the individual conveyor tracks for the buffer conveyor may be adjusted separately from one another so that the buffer conveyor may transfer an individual food product to only one of the conveyor tracks on the main flow conveyor. 6. The conveyor device in accordance with claim 5 , further comprising a transfer conveyor having a plurality of parallel conveyor tracks, wherein the transfer conveyor is arranged downstream of the transfer device in the direction of conveyance and is supplied with the food products by the transfer device, wherein for the transfer conveyor the conveying speed of the individual conveyor tracks may be adjusted separately from one another in order to transfer only one individual food product to only one of the conveyor tracks.
