The present invention relates to an inhibitor of NGAL gene expression or a NGAL antagonist for use in the prevention or the treatment of heart failure.

The invention claimed is: 1. A method of treating congestive heart failure or chronic heart failure in a patient in need thereof, wherein said congestive heart failure and said chronic heart failure are heart failures induced by mineralcorticoid receptor (MR) activation, comprising administering to the patient a therapeutically effective amount of a neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) antagonist, wherein said NGAL antagonist is an antibody which specifically inhibits the biological activity of NGAL in cardiac cells to treat said congestive heart failure or chronic heart failure induced by MR activation and wherein said antibody is in the form of a pharmaceutical composition.
