What is claimed is: 1. A spacer fabric mesh comprising: a spacer fabric comprising: a bottom fabric layer; a top fabric layer; and an intermediate layer comprising a plurality of interconnecting fibers which extend between, and connect, said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer, wherein said interconnecting fibers are made of a shape memory alloy, and said bottom fabric layer, said top fabric layer, and said intermediate layer are each discrete layers that are separate from one another, wherein a first portion of said interconnecting fibers extend substantially perpendicular to said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer, while a second portion of said interconnecting fibers are disposed at an acute angle relative to said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer. 2. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said spacer fabric comprises a material selected from the group consisting of Polyglactin, Polyglycolic Acid, Polypropylene, Polyester, ePTFE, Collagen, Elastin, and Silk. 3. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said interconnecting fibers are monofilament. 4. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said interconnecting fibers are multifilament. 5. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said spacer fabric mesh comprises at least two spacer fabric structures stacked one on top of another to form a multi-level spacer fabric mesh. 6. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer comprise the same material. 7. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer comprise different materials. 8. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said shape memory alloy is characterized by superelasticity. 9. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said spacer fabric further comprises polymeric fibers in addition to said shape member alloy fibers. 10. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein the spacer fabric mesh has a pore size of between 0.3 mm and 5.0 mm. 11. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said interconnecting fibers have a diameter of between 0.02 mm and 0.5 mm. 12. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein said spacer fabric mesh has a maximum tensile strength of 12 N/cm 2 and said interconnecting fibers are employed to increase the columnar rigidity and strength of the spacer fabric mesh. 13. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 wherein one of said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer comprises a non-resorbable polyester, and further wherein the other of said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer comprises a resorbable hydrophilic film which minimizes tissue attachment. 14. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer include different mesh patterns. 15. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer include different pore sizes. 16. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein one of said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer is made of an absorbable material and the other of said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer is made of a permanent material. 17. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said interconnecting fibers have a diameter of between 0.01 inches and 0.003 inches. 18. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said spacer fabric includes a porosity ranging from about 10% to about 98%, and includes pore sizes from about 100 microns to about 5000 microns. 19. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer are outermost layers. 20. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said spacer fabric includes only three layers. 21. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer are both a knit fabric. 22. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein the intermediate layer prevents the bottom fabric layer and the top fabric layer from contacting. 23. The spacer fabric mesh according to claim 1 , wherein said bottom fabric layer, said top fabric layer, and said intermediate layer are all a knit fabric. 24. A spacer fabric mesh comprising: a spacer fabric comprising: a bottom fabric layer; a top fabric layer wherein said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer are outermost layers; and an intermediate layer comprising a plurality of interconnecting fibers which extend between, and connect, said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer, wherein said interconnecting fibers are made of a shape memory alloy, said bottom fabric layer, said top fabric layer, and said intermediate layer are each discrete layers that are separate from one another, and said bottom fabric layer, said top fabric layer, and said intermediate layer are all a knit fabric, and said spacer fabric includes only three layers, wherein a first portion of said interconnecting fibers extend substantially perpendicular to said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer, while a second portion of said interconnecting fibers are disposed at an acute angle relative to said bottom fabric layer and said top fabric layer.
