Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

The subject disclosure describes monitoring when a headset is in communication with a mobile communication device, detecting the headset, comparing a name of a caller and a telephone number of the caller against a list of names and telephone numbers previously stored in a memory, determining that the name of the caller or the telephone number of the caller matches one of the names and telephone numbers in the list, determining that the one of the names and telephone numbers is associated with a pre-recorded message that the user previously recorded and stored in the memory, retrieving the pre-recorded message, and performing a text-to-speech conversion on the name and telephone number of the caller to generate a synthesized speech signal spoken text message and sending the synthesized speech signal and the pre-recorded message to the headset. Other embodiments are disclosed.

What is claimed is: 1. A method comprising: receiving, by a mobile device comprising a processor, a message; obtaining, by the mobile device, identification information associated with the message; receiving, by the mobile device, an activation signal indicating that an audio device is in communication with the mobile device; responsive to receiving the activation signal: comparing, by the mobile device, contact information with the identification information associated with the message, wherein the contact information is stored in a memory; determining, by the mobile device, that the identification information is associated with an entry in the memory based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry to yield matching contact information; converting, by the mobile device, the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal; converting, by the mobile device, the message into a second synthesized speech signal; and providing, by the mobile device, the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech to the audio device for audible presentation. 2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message comprises a text message. 3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a recorded message is associated with the entry in the memory, and wherein the method further comprises providing the recorded message to the audio device for audible presentation. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determining is in accordance with an inexact match with the contact information in the entry, the match being inexact in accordance with user preferences. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio device comprises a headset. 6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the headset is in physical contact with a user of the mobile device, and the mobile device is not in physical contact with the user. 7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is stored in the memory to yield a stored message and the message is associated with the entry, and wherein the method further comprises: converting the stored message into a third synthesized speech signal; and providing the third synthesized speech signal to the audio device. 8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the message is an instant message, and wherein the identification information comprises a name of a sender of the instant message. 9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the audio device is part of a hands-free communication system. 10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the audio device comprises an earpiece. 11. A device, comprising: a processor; and a memory that stores executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising: receiving a message; obtaining identification information associated with the message; receiving an activation signal indicating that an audio device is in communication with the device; responsive to receiving the activation signal: comparing contact information with the identification information associated with the message, wherein the contact information is stored in the memory; determining that the identification information is associated with an entry in the memory based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry to yield matching contact information; converting the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal; converting the message into a second synthesized speech signal; and providing the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech to the audio device for audible presentation. 12. The device of claim 11 , wherein the message comprises a text message. 13. The device of claim 11 , wherein a recorded message is associated with the entry in the memory, and wherein the memory stores additional executable instructions that, when executed by the processor, facilitate performance of operations, comprising providing the recorded message to the audio device for audible presentation. 14. The device of claim 11 , wherein the determining is in accordance with an inexact match with the contact information in the entry, the match being inexact in accordance with user preferences. 15. The device of claim 11 , wherein the audio device comprises a headset. 16. The device of claim 15 , wherein the headset is in physical contact with a user of the device, and the device is not in physical contact with the user. 17. The device of claim 11 , wherein the message is stored in the memory to yield a storage message and the message is associated with the entry, and wherein the memory stores further instructions which, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations comprising: converting the stored message into a third synthesized speech signal; and providing the third synthesized speech signal to the audio device. 18. The device of claim 11 , wherein the message is an instant message, and wherein the identification information comprises a name of a sender of the instant message. 19. The device of claim 11 , wherein the audio device comprises an earpiece. 20. A computer-readable storage device that stores executable instructions that, when executed by a processor, cause the processor to perform operations, comprising: receiving a message; obtaining identification information associated with the message; receiving an activation signal indicating that an audio device is in communication with a device; responsive to receiving the activation signal: comparing contact information with the identification information associated with the message; determining that the identification information is associated with an entry based on the comparing, in accordance with a match with the contact information in the entry to yield matching contact information; converting the matching contact information into a first synthesized speech signal; converting the message into a second synthesized speech signal; and providing the first synthesized speech signal and the second synthesized speech to the audio device for audible presentation.
