Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A dispenser system for delivering various combinations of dispersants to a body of water with the various combinations of dispersants supplied to the body of water through the interchanging of dispensing cartridges which are attachable to a main dispensing cartridge where a condition for interchanging of dispensing cartridges may be triggered by an event.

We claim: 1. A dispenser system for full season use in a body of water comprising: a main dispensing cartridge having a base and a set of elongated ports for water to flow into and out of the dispenser system, said main dispensing cartridge containing a float and a main dispersant chamber containing a main dispersant said main dispersant dissipating from the main dispersant chamber and into the body of water through said set of elongated ports, said base having a post extending along a central axis with the post having lateral extensions extending from a face on the main dispensing cartridge; a first dispensing cartridge 16 having an elongated opening in a base with said base releasably securable to the lateral extensions on the post of the main dispensing cartridge with said first dispensing cartridge containing a first dispersant, said first dispersant dissipating from the dispersant chamber and into the body of water through said set of elongated ports, to thereby enable the main dispensing cartridge and the first dispensing cartridge to simultaneously supply the main dispersant and the first dispersant to the body of water; and a second dispensing cartridge with said second dispensing cartridge containing a second dispersant, said second dispersant dissipating from a second dispersant chamber in the second dispensing cartridge and into the body of water through said set of elongated ports, with said second dispensing cartridge interchangeable with said first dispensing cartridge to thereby enable the main dispensing cartridge and the second dispensing cartridge to supply the main dispersant and the second dispersant to the body of water when the second dispensing cartridge is interchanged with the first dispensing cartridge. 2. The dispenser system of claim 1 wherein the body of water comprises an outdoors pool or spa and the main dispensing cartridge contains a source of metal ions to enable metal ions to be deliverable to the outdoor pool or spa while the first dispersant or the second dispersant is supplied to the outdoor pool or spa from either the first dispensing cartridge or the second dispensing cartridge. 3. The dispenser system of claim 2 wherein the first dispensing cartridge contains a halogen and the source of metal ions in the main dispensing cartridge delivers silver ions to the outdoor pool or spa. 4. The dispenser system of claim 3 wherein the second dispensing cartridge contains an algaecide. 5. The dispenser system of claim 1 wherein one of the dispensing cartridges contains a shock dispersant. 6. The dispenser system of claim 5 wherein the shock dispersant comprises one or more of the following: monopersulfate, dichloroisocyanuric acid, soda ash or bicarbonate with a weak acid, dichloroisocyanuric acid with or without a clarifier and sodium bromide. 7. The dispensing system of claim 1 wherein either the first dispensing cartridge or second dispensing cartridge or both have at least two dispensing chambers with a different dispersant located in each of the dispensing chambers. 8. The dispensing system of claim 1 including a third dispensing cartridge with said third dispensing cartridge containing a third dispersant, said third dispersant dissipating from the dispersant chamber and into the body of water through said set of elongated ports, with said third dispensing cartridge interchangeable with said first dispensing cartridge to thereby enable the main dispensing cartridge and the third dispensing cartridge to simultaneously supply the main dispersant and the third dispersant to the body of water when the third dispensing cartridge is interchanged with the first dispensing cartridge. 9. The dispensing system of claim 1 wherein at least one of the dispensing cartridges contains a dispersant for affecting a pH of the body of water. 10. The dispensing system of claim 1 wherein one of the dispensing cartridges contains three compartments where one of the compartments contains a clarifier, a second compartment contains sodium bicarbonate and citric acid and the third compartment contains an algaecide or a phosphate remover. 11. The dispensing system of claim 1 wherein the main dispensing cartridge has a generally spherical shape and each of the second and the third dispensing cartridges have a generally hemispherical shape so that when mated together the dispensing cartridges have a generally spherical shape. 12. The dispensing system of claim 1 wherein at least one of the dispensing cartridges is consumer refillable. 13. A full season dispenser system for a body of water comprising: a main dispensing cartridge containing a main dispersant and a set of ports for water to flow into and out of the dispenser system, said main dispersant dissipating from the main dispensing cartridge into the body of water through said set of ports, said main dispensing cartridge having a post extending along a central axis with the post having lateral extensions extending from a face on the main dispensing cartridge; a first dispensing cartridge having an elongated opening with said first dispensing cartridge releasably securable to the lateral extensions on the post of the main dispensing cartridge with said first dispensing cartridge containing a first dispersant, said first dispersant dissipating from the first dispensing cartridge and into the body of water through said set of ports to thereby enable the main dispensing cartridge and the first dispensing cartridge to supply a combination of the main dispersant and the first dispersant to the body of water; and a further dispensing cartridge securable to the main cartridge with the further dispensing cartridge containing a further dispersant for responding to an event, said further dispersant dissipating from the further dispensing cartridge and into the body of water through said set of ports of the main cartridge with said further dispensing cartridge interchangeable with said first dispensing cartridge to thereby enable the main dispensing cartridge and the further dispensing cartridge to respond to the event by supplying a different combination of dispersants to the body of water than the main dispensing cartridge and the first dispensing cartridge. 14. The full season dispenser system of claim 13 wherein the main dispensing cartridge contains a float and the combination of the first dispensing cartridge and the main dispenser cartridge comprises a floating dispenser and the combination of the main dispensing cartridge and the further dispensing cartridge also comprises a floating dispenser. 15. The full season dispenser system of claim 13 including at least three dispensing cartridges each interchangeable with each of the at least three dispensing cartridge and each securable to the main dispensing cartridge for simultaneous delivery of a dispersant from both the main dispensing cartridge and one of the at least three dispensing cartridges and the body of water comprises an outdoor pool or spa.
