Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An approach for delaying social media messages is provided herein. A first computing device receives user preferences. The first computing device detects a social media message of a user. The first computing device determines that the user is not in the physical location. The first computing device determines whether to delay the posting of the social media message based on a comparison of the content of the social media message with the received user preferences.

What is claimed is: 1. A method for delaying a social media message, comprising the steps of: a first computing device receiving user preferences, wherein the user preferences detail criteria for delaying a posting of a social media message, and wherein the user preferences include a preference to not display a social media message when the social media message includes one or more specific users and is posted beyond a threshold distance away from a home location; the first computing device detecting a request by the user to transmit a social media message on a user device; the first computing device determining whether the one or more specific users are included in the social media message; based on determining that the one or more specific users are included in the social media message, the first computing device referencing a global positioning system (GPS) to determine one or more GPS coordinates corresponding to the user device; the first computing device determining a current location of the user device based on the one or more GPS coordinates; the first computing device determining whether the current location of the user device is within the threshold distance of the home location; and based on determining that the user is not within the threshold distance of the home location, the first computing device storing the social media message in a queue and delaying a transmission of the social media message. 2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising the steps of: based on determining that either the user is within the threshold distance of the home location or that the one or more specific users are not included in the social media message, the first computing device transmitting the social media message. 3. The method of claim 2 , further comprising the step of the first computing device removing the social media message from the holding queue. 4. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the current location of the user device is further based on: the first computing device referencing an itinerary corresponding to the user; and the first computing device comparing one or more keywords identified in the itinerary with a locational reference database. 5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the holding queue includes a plurality of social media messages arranged in a chronological order. 6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the one or more specific users are included in the social media message further comprises: the first computing device applying facial recognition techniques to one or more images included in the social media message. 7. A computer program product for delaying a social media message, the computer program product comprising: one or more computer-readable storage devices and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more tangible storage devices, the program instructions comprising: program instructions to receive user preferences, wherein the user preferences detail criteria for delaying a posting of a social media message, and wherein the user preferences include a preference to not display a social media message when the social media message includes one or more specific users and is posted beyond a threshold distance away from a home location; program instructions to detect a request by the user to transmit a social media message on a user device; program instructions to determine whether the one or more specific users are included in the social media message; based on determining that the one or more specific users are included in the social media message, program instructions to reference a global positioning system (GPS) to determine one or more GPS coordinates corresponding to the user device; program instructions to determine a current location of the user device based on the one or more GPS coordinates; program instructions to determine whether the current location of the user device is within the threshold distance of the home location; and based on determining that the user is not within the threshold distance of the home location, program instructions to store the social media message in a queue and delay a transmission of the social media message. 8. The computer program product of claim 7 , further comprising: based on determining that either the user is within the threshold distance of the home location or that the one or more specific users are not included in the social media message, program instructions to transmit the social media message. 9. The computer program product of claim 8 , further comprising program instructions to remove the social media message from the holding queue. 10. The computer program product of claim 7 , wherein determining the current location of the user device is further based on: program instructions to reference an itinerary corresponding to the user; and program instructions to compare one or more keywords identified in the itinerary with a locational reference database. 11. The computer program product of claim 7 , wherein determining whether the one or more specific users are included in the social media message further comprises: program instructions to apply facial recognition techniques to one or more images included in the social media message. 12. A computer system for delaying a social media message, the computer system comprising: one or more processors, one or more computer-readable memories, one or more computer-readable tangible storage devices, and program instructions stored on at least one of the one or more storage devices for execution by at least one of the one or more processors via at least one of the one or more memories, the program instructions comprising: program instructions to receive user preferences, wherein the user preferences detail criteria for delaying a posting of a social media message, and wherein the user preferences include a preference to not display a social media message when the social media message includes one or more specific users and is posted beyond a threshold distance away from a home location; program instructions to detect a request by the user to transmit a social media message on a user device; program instructions to determine whether the one or more specific users are included in the social media message; based on determining that the one or more specific users are included in the social media message, program instructions to reference a global positioning system (GPS) to determine one or more GPS coordinates corresponding to the user device; program instructions to determine a current location of the user device based on the one or more GPS coordinates; program instructions to determine whether the current location of the user device is within the threshold distance of the home location; and based on determining that the user is not within the threshold distance of the home location, program instructions to store the social media message in a queue and delay a transmission of the social media message. 13. The computer system of claim 12 , further comprising: based on determining that either the user is within the threshold distance of the home location or that the one or more specific users are not included in the social media message, program instructions to transmit the social media message. 14. The computer system of claim 13 , further comprising program instructions to remove the social media message from the holding queue. 15. The computer system of claim 12 , wherein determining the current location of the user device is further based on: program instructions to reference an itinerary corresponding to th
