Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A printable film that contains a polymeric film substrate with a front side and a backside. The printable film contains also a light diffusion layer and an image receiving layer. The light diffusion layer is applied on the backside of the polymeric film substrate and contains inorganic particles, dispersing agents and polymeric binders. The image receiving layer is applied over the light diffusion layer on the backside of the polymeric film substrate. Also disclosed herein is the method for obtaining the printable film.

The invention claimed is: 1. A printable film comprising: a. a polymeric film substrate with a front side and a backside, b. a light diffusion layer, applied on the backside of the polymeric film substrate, which contains inorganic particles, dispersing agents and polymeric binders; c. and an image receiving layer applied over the light diffusion layer on the backside of the polymeric film substrate. 2. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the polymeric film substrate contains, at least, polymeric substances that are poly-alkene compounds. 3. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the polymeric film substrate is a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) film substrate. 4. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the polymeric film substrate further comprise a tie layer. 5. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the light diffusion layer contains at least two different type of inorganic particles, a dispersing agent and a polymeric binder. 6. The printable film of claim 5 wherein the light diffusion layer has an opacity that is ranging from about 50 to about 95. 7. The printable film of claim 5 wherein the light diffusion layer encompasses a first type of inorganic particles that have a refractive index (n) that is superior or equal to 1.8. 8. The printable film of claim 5 wherein the light diffusion layer encompasses a second type of inorganic particles that have a refractive index (n) that is between 0.4 and 1.8. 9. The printable film of claim 5 wherein the light diffusion layer comprises a first type of inorganic particles which is titanium dioxide and a second type of inorganic particles which is calcium carbonate. 10. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the light diffusion layer comprises dispersants that are reactive silane coupling agents containing hydrophilic functional groups. 11. The printable film of claim 1 wherein the image receiving layer comprises, at least, a polymeric network, poly-alkene polymeric compounds and inorganic compounds. 12. The print medium of claim 11 wherein the polymeric network, in the image receiving layer, is formed by using vinyl-urethane hybrid copolymers or acrylic-urethane hybrid polymers. 13. The print medium of claim 11 wherein the poly-alkene polymeric compounds, in the image receiving layer, are polytetrafluoroethylenes, polyamide or polyethylene polymer particles. 14. A printable recording media having a polyethylene terephthalate base film, with a tie layer which is a copolymer emulsion of butyl acrylate-ethyl acrylate, and that has been through a corona treatment; a light diffusion layer, and an image receiving layer applied over the light diffusion layer on the backside of the base film. 15. A method for forming a printable film comprising: a. providing a polymeric film substrate with a front side and a backside, b. applying a light diffusion layer that contains inorganic particles, dispersing agents and polymeric binders on the backside of the polymeric film substrate, c. coating an image receiving layer over said light diffusion layer, d. and drying the coatings in order to obtain a printable film.
