A drug delivery device for setting and dispensing a dose of a drug is presented having a support body having a first end defining a first opening and a second end defining a second opening and a centered outer indicator ring. A syringe barrel sealed by a stopper is slidably disposed therein along an axial direction and adapted to have an integrated needle or to be coupled with a needle assembly, wherein the syringe barrel is positioned within the support body. A needle shield is adapted to be coupled to one of the ends of the support body and slidably disposed thereon. An outer body is adapted to be coupled to the other end of the support body and slidably disposed thereon, wherein the outer indicator ring limits the movement of the outer body as well as of the needle shield.

The invention claimed is: 1. Drug delivery device for setting and dispensing a dose of a drug, comprising: a support body having a first end defining a first opening and a second end defining a second opening and a centered outer indicator ring, a syringe barrel sealed by a stopper slidably disposed therein along an axial direction and adapted to have an integrated needle or to be coupled with a needle assembly, wherein the syringe barrel is positioned within the support body, a needle shield adapted to be coupled to one of the ends of the support body and slidably disposed thereon; an outer body adapted to be coupled to the other end of the support body and slidably disposed thereon; wherein the outer indicator ring limits the movement of the outer body as well as of the needle shield, wherein ends of the outer body and the needle shield coupled to the support body have mating surfaces, wherein the outer indicator ring is arranged outside the needle shield and has a shape mating with the mating surfaces. 2. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the outer indicator ring is curved. 3. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein a first detent mechanism is arranged to constrain movement of the outer body relative to the support body by opposing this movement with a first detent force. 4. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein a second detent mechanism is arranged to constrain movement of the needle shield relative to the support body by opposing this movement with a second detent force. 5. Drug delivery device according to claim 4 , wherein the first detent force is greater than a sum of the second detent force and a counteracting force of a needle shield spring arranged to bias the needle shield against the support body. 6. Drug delivery device according to claim 4 , wherein the second detent mechanism comprises at least one guiding track defined on the support body and at least one retaining clip on the needle shield deflectable by the guiding track, wherein the guiding track is configured such that the retaining clip follows a first path when the needle shield is depressed for needle extension and a different second path when the needle shield is subsequently extended, wherein a non-return catch is arranged for catching the retaining clip at the end of the second path. 7. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the support body comprises outer guiding means protruding radially outwards for guiding the movement of the outer body. 8. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the support body comprises a guiding slot disposed within the wall of the support body for guiding the movement of the needle shield. 9. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , comprising a plunger rod coupled to the stopper, wherein a proximal portion of the plunger rod is adapted to be coupled to the outer body. 10. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the needle shield comprises at least a body section and a cap part. 11. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the outer body is formed as a single part or wherein the outer body comprises at least a base section and a cap part. 12. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the end of the outer body coupled to the support body comprises a radially outwards directed flange. 13. Drug delivery device according to claim 12 , wherein on the outer body in the range of the flange a direction indicator designed as a profiled cavity or concavity in the surface of the outer body is arranged. 14. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the needle shield comprises a direction indicator. 15. Drug delivery device according to claim 1 , wherein the ends of the outer body and the needle shield coupled to the support body have mating surfaces. 16. Drug delivery device for setting and dispensing a dose of a drug, comprising: a support body having a first end defining a first opening and a second end defining a second opening and a centered outer indicator ring, a syringe barrel sealed by a stopper slidably disposed therein along an axial direction and adapted to have an integrated needle or to be coupled with a needle assembly, wherein the syringe barrel is positioned within the support body, a needle shield adapted to be coupled to one of the ends of the support body and slidably disposed thereon; an outer body adapted to be coupled to the other end of the support body and slidably disposed thereon; wherein the outer indicator ring limits the movement of the outer body as well as of the needle shield, wherein the second detent mechanism comprises at least one guiding track defined on the support body and at least one retaining clip on the needle shield deflectable by the guiding track, wherein the guiding track is configured such that the retaining clip follows a first path when the needle shield is depressed for needle extension and a different second path when the needle shield is subsequently extended, wherein a non-return catch is arranged for catching the retaining clip at the end of the second path.
