Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A drawer for receiving components may include a caddy tray and at least one caddy. The caddy tray may include a substantially planar caddy tray bottom defining a caddy tray depth and a caddy tray width. The at least one caddy may be mechanically coupled to the caddy tray via a hinge mechanically coupled to the caddy tray bottom such that the caddy pivots relative to the caddy tray about the hinge, the hinge having an axis generally parallel to the caddy tray depth, the at least one caddy having a plurality of bays, each bay having one or more structural components for receiving a modular information handling resource and configured such that the bay is accessed for insertion or removal of the modular information handling resource when the at least one caddy is pivoted from a closed position to an open position.

What is claimed is: 1. An apparatus comprising: a server chassis; a caddy tray comprising a substantially planar caddy tray bottom defining a caddy tray depth and a caddy tray width, and further comprising a caddy tray face coupled to the caddy tray bottom and generally perpendicular to the caddy tray bottom, wherein the caddy tray is insertable into the server chassis along a direction corresponding to the caddy tray depth; and a first caddy and a second caddy mechanically coupled to the caddy tray via respective hinges mechanically coupled to opposite edges of the caddy tray at the caddy tray bottom such that, when the caddy tray is in an open position relative to the server chassis, the first and second caddies are operable to pivot relative to the caddy tray about the respective hinges to rotate about axes that are generally parallel to the caddy tray depth, but in opposite rotational directions, the first and second caddies each having at least one bay that includes one or more structural components for receiving a modular information handling resource and configured such that the bay is accessible for insertion or removal of the modular information handling resource when the corresponding first or second caddy is pivoted from a closed position to an open position; wherein at least one of the first and second caddies further comprises a bearing, and wherein the caddy tray face comprises an opening configured to engage with the bearing such that the bearing is configured to translate along the opening as the at least one of the first and second caddies is pivoted about the hinge. 2. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising: a drawer cover fixedly coupled to the caddy tray; and a drawer sleeve slidably coupled to the drawer cover, such that the drawer cover is configured to slide relative to the drawer sleeve. 3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the caddy tray face is substantially planar. 4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the opening is an arcuate opening. 5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein a degree of motion of the at least one of the first and second caddies is limited by a size of the arcuate opening. 6. An information handling system comprising: a chassis; and a drawer comprising: a caddy tray comprising a substantially planar caddy tray bottom defining a caddy tray depth and a caddy tray width, and further comprising a caddy tray face coupled to the caddy tray bottom, wherein the caddy tray is insertable into the chassis along a direction corresponding to the caddy tray depth; a first caddy and a second caddy mechanically coupled to the caddy tray via respective hinges mechanically coupled to opposite edges of the caddy tray at the caddy tray bottom such that, when the caddy tray is in an open position relative to the chassis, the first and second caddies are operable to pivot relative to the caddy tray about the respective hinges to rotate about axes that are generally parallel to the caddy tray depth, but in opposite rotational directions, the first and second caddies each having at least one bay that includes one or more structural components for receiving a modular information handling resource and configured such that the bay is accessible for insertion or removal of the modular information handling resource when the corresponding first or second caddy is pivoted from a closed position to an open position; a drawer cover fixedly coupled to the caddy tray; and a drawer sleeve fixedly coupled to the chassis and slidably coupled to the drawer cover, such that the drawer cover is operable to slide relative to the drawer sleeve; wherein at least one of the first and second caddies further comprises a bearing, and wherein the caddy tray face comprises an opening configured to engage with the bearing such that the bearing is configured to translate along the opening as the at least one of the first and second caddies is pivoted about the hinge. 7. The information handling system of claim 6 , wherein when the first or second caddy is pivoted from the closed position to the open position, the corresponding bay is accessible from a side of the bay corresponding to a central axis of the caddy tray. 8. A method comprising: mechanically coupling a caddy tray to a first and a second caddy; and inserting the caddy tray into a server chassis wherein: the caddy tray comprises a substantially planar caddy tray bottom defining a caddy tray depth and a caddy tray width, and further comprises a caddy tray face coupled to the caddy tray bottom and generally perpendicular to the caddy tray bottom; and the first and second caddies are mechanically coupled to the caddy tray via respective hinges mechanically coupled to opposite edges of the caddy tray at the caddy tray bottom such that, when the caddy tray is in an open position relative to the server chassis, the first and second caddies are pivotable relative to the caddy tray about the respective hinges to rotate about axes that are generally parallel to the caddy tray depth, but in opposite rotational directions, the first and second caddies each having at least one bay that includes one or more structural components for receiving a modular information handling resource and configured such that the bay is accessible for insertion or removal of the modular information handling resource when the corresponding first or second caddy is pivoted from a closed position to an open position; wherein at least one of the first and second caddies further comprises a bearing, and wherein the caddy tray face comprises an opening configured to engage with the bearing such that the bearing is configured to translate along the opening as the at least one of the first and second caddies is pivoted about the hinge. 9. The method of claim 8 , further comprising: fixedly coupling a drawer cover to the caddy tray; and slidably coupling a drawer sleeve to the drawer cover, such that the drawer cover slides relative to the drawer sleeve and such that when a drawer comprising the drawer cover and the drawer sleeve is translated to an open position and when the first and second caddies are pivoted from the closed position to the open position, each of the plurality of bays is accessible. 10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the caddy tray face is substantially planar. 11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the opening is an arcuate opening. 12. The method of claim 11 , wherein a degree of motion of the first or second caddies is limited by a size of the arcuate openings.
