Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

A remote follow spot system includes a remote controller that has separately movable parts that are movable in two orthogonal directions, and a display attached to one of said two separately movable parts. The display receives a video feed from a controlled light, that is controlled to move in the same directions as remote controller. The display hence shows the field of view where the light is pointing. In this way, an operator of the follow spot can control the light without physically being near the light.

What is claimed is: 1. A system of controlling a pan and tilt controllable luminaire, comprising: a controller, remote from the luminaire, the controller being physically movable in pan and tilt directions, the controller having movement encoding devices that create electrical outputs indicative of the movement of the controller in the pan and tilt directions, the controller creating and outputting control outputs in a format to control the pan and tilt controllable luminaire to move pan and tilt controllable luminaire in the same pan and tilt directions in which the controller is moved, the controller receiving video information that shows a field of view including a pointed-at position of the luminaire which the luminaire is illuminating, the controller having a display screen attached thereto, that displays the video information that shows the field of view illuminated by the luminaire, such that movement of the controller causes a corresponding movement of the pan and tilt controllable luminaire, which causes a different view to be seen on the video information. 2. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the controller also includes controls for controlling light parameters output by the luminaire. 3. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the controller is shaped to have a yoke shaped portion that is movable and a head shaped portion which is movable relative to the yoke. 4. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the control outputs are in a format of one of DMX, Artnet, RDM, ACN or sACN. 5. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the control outputs are in a controlling format which is used to control a position of pan and tilt controllable luminaire. 6. The system as in claim 1 , further comprising a first handle on the controller that is used by an operator to move a body of the controller in a first direction, and a second handle on the controller which is used to move the body of the controller in a second direction orthogonal to the first direction. 7. The system as in claim 1 , wherein the movement encoding devices include devices that produce digital outputs indicative of an amount of angular movement. 8. The system as in claim 2 , wherein said controls include controls to select which of multiple luminaires to control. 9. The system as in claim 2 , wherein said controls include controls to select multiple different luminaires to control using the same controller, where all of the multiple luminaires are controlled by a same controller. 10. The system as in claim 3 , wherein the screen is attached to the head and moves as the head is moved. 11. A follow spot system comprising: a lamp head that is movable based on electronic signals, in both pan and tilt directions, a camera, providing a camera output that indicates a same field of view as said lamp head when said lamp head is moved, wherein said lamp head is moved based on remotely received electronic signals, and an output of said camera is communicated to a controller that provides said electronic signals, and where said camera receives and is controlled by said electronic signals to provide different information based on said electronic signals, further comprising a remote controller, and where the remote controller is separate from the lamp head, but is electronically communicating there with, and where the remote controller has first and second handles, a first handle located to move the controller in a pan direction and a second handle located to move the controller in a tilt direction. 12. A follow spot system comprising: a lamp head that is movable based on electronic signals, in both pan and tilt directions, a camera, providing a camera output that indicates a same field of view as said lamp head when said lamp head is moved, wherein said lamp head is moved based on remotely received electronic signals, and an output of said camera is communicated to a controller that provides said electronic signals, and where said camera receives and is controlled by said electronic signals to provide different information based on said electronic signals, wherein the controller also includes a monitor, which is attached to said controller, which receives and views the camera output, and where the monitor is viewable from each of a plurality of pan and tilt directions to which the controller can be moved.
