Motion artifacts are suppressed for three-dimensional parametric ultrasound imaging. Motion tracking is performed so that the parameter values derived over time are based on return from the same locations. Distortion due to the scan pattern is accounted for in the results of the motion tracking, such as by re-sampling the results to deal with discontinuity in time between data from adjacent sub-volumes and/or by aligning the scan pattern based on a direction of motion.

I claim: 1. A method for motion artifact suppression for three-dimensional parametric ultrasound imaging, the method comprising: scanning a volume of a patient with multi-beam reception where multi-beam groups progress in time along a first row in a first direction, then along a second row in the first direction, the first row adjacent to the second row along a second direction, the multi-beam groups of the different rows that are spatially adjacent to each other across the different rows being scanned at non-adjacent times; spatially registering ultrasound data from the scanning with a reference set of data, the spatially registering matching the ultrasound data separately for each of the spatially adjacent multi-beam groups of the first and second rows with the reference set of data; accounting for contraction or dilation, the accounting being a function of the spatially registering; calculating parametric information from ultrasound data from the scanning, the calculating being a function of a correction from the accounting; and generating a parametric image representing the volume, the parametric image being a function of the parametric information. 2. The method of claim 1 wherein scanning comprises transmitting a transmit beam and forming at least four receive beams in response to the transmit beam for each of the multi-beam groups. 3. The method of claim 1 wherein scanning comprises scanning in azimuth as the first direction, the rows being spaced apart in elevation. 4. The method of claim 1 wherein spatially registering comprises correlating the ultrasound data from each of the multi-beam groups with the reference set of data, the reference set of data representing the volume, and separately adjusting a spatial location represented by the ultrasound data of each of the multi-beam groups as a function of the correlating. 5. The method of claim 4 wherein correlating comprises finding an offset of the ultrasound data for each of the multi-beam groups from the reference set with a minimum sum of absolute differences, and wherein adjusting comprises shifting the ultrasound data for the multi-beam groups as a function of the respective offsets. 6. The method of claim 1 wherein calculating comprises determining a wash-in or wash-out characteristic of contrast agent for each of a plurality of spatial locations of the volume, and wherein generating comprises generating a wash-in or wash-out image. 7. The method of claim 1 wherein the spatially registering results in the contraction of represented locations of the ultrasound data from the scanning of the volume, and wherein accounting comprises calculating combination data for at least one of the locations in an overlap of two of the spatially adjacent multi-beam groups as a function of the ultrasound data from both of the two spatially adjacent multi-beam groups. 8. The method of claim 1 wherein the spatially registering results in the dilation of represented locations of the ultrasound data from the scanning of the volume, and wherein accounting comprises calculating replacement data for a gap. 9. The method of claim 1 wherein the spatially registering results in the dilation of represented locations of the ultrasound data from the scanning of the volume, and wherein accounting comprises identifying a gap caused by the dilation and preventing the calculating of the parametric information for the gap.
