A stringed musical instrument comprises a bridge that receives a plurality of strings. The bridge comprises at least one internal pocket. In some embodiments, the bridge comprises a plurality of internal pockets.
Opening claim text (preview).
The invention claimed is: 1. A bridge for a stringed musical instrument, said bridge comprising: an injection or compression molded bridge body, said bridge body comprising a lower side comprising a plurality of pockets. 2. The bridge according to claim 1 , said bridge comprising opposite ends, wherein at least one of said plurality of pockets is disposed proximate to one of said opposite ends. 3. The bridge according to claim 1 , wherein said plurality of pockets are of a regular shape. 4. The bridge according to claim 1 , wherein at least two of said plurality of pockets are identical in shape. 5. The bridge according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of said plurality of pockets has a first level and a second level, said first level having a different depth dimension as compared to said second level. 6. A stringed instrument comprising: a soundboard; a bridge attached to the soundboard, the bridge comprising a surface in contact with the soundboard; and a plurality of strings attached to the bridge; wherein the bridge comprises a hollow internal pocket. 7. The stringed instrument of claim 6 , wherein the surface comprises an opening into the hollow internal pocket. 8. The stringed instrument of claim 7 , the surface comprising a peripheral bonding area extending around the opening. 9. The stringed instrument of claim 8 , comprising a bonding agent engaged with the peripheral bonding area. 10. The stringed instrument of claim 6 , the hollow internal pocket comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having a different depth from the second portion. 11. The stringed instrument of claim 6 , the bridge comprising a second surface, the second surface having a slot formed therein, the slot constructed and arranged to receive a saddle. 12. The stringed instrument of claim 6 , the hollow internal pocket comprising a first internal pocket, the bridge comprising a second internal pocket. 13. The stringed instrument of claim 12 , the second internal pocket comprising a first portion and a second portion, the first portion having a different depth from the second portion. 14. The stringed instrument of claim 12 , wherein the first internal pocket and the second internal pocket are located on opposite sides of the plurality of strings. 15. The stringed instrument of claim 12 , the first internal pocket and the second internal pocket having different shapes. 16. The stringed instrument of claim 12 , the bridge comprising a third internal pocket. 17. The stringed instrument of claim 16 , the third internal pocket located adjacent to an end of the plurality of strings.
