Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

An example dialysis system includes a dialysis machine and a receiver coded with at least one of an address or a personal identification number (“PIN”). The dialysis machine is configured to perform a prescribed dialysis treatment on a patient, generate ultrafiltration (“UF”) removed data over the prescribed dialysis treatment performed by the dialysis machine, and transmit the UF removed data. The example receiver is configured to receive at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale. The at least one coded address or PIN ensures that the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received by the receiver as opposed to another receiver.

The invention is claimed as follows: 1. A dialysis system comprising: a dialysis machine configured to perform a prescribed dialysis treatment on a patient, generate ultrafiltration (“UF”) removed data over the prescribed dialysis treatment performed by the dialysis machine, and transmit the UF removed data; and a receiver coded with at least one of an address or a personal identification number (“PIN”), the receiver configured to receive at least one of blood pressure data from a blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from a weight scale wirelessly over a frequency, data rate, or communication protocol, the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale located external to the dialysis machine, wherein the at least one coded address or PIN is used by the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale and is provided with the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data sent to the receiver, wherein the receiver is configured to compare the at least one coded address or PIN to the address or PIN provided with the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to ensure that the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received and processed by the receiver as opposed to extraneous data received over the same frequency, data rate, or communication protocol from unwanted sources, including devices in proximity of the dialysis machine, as a result of the extraneous data from the unwanted sources not having the at least one coded address or PIN, and wherein the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is transmitted via a network located external to the dialysis machine. 2. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the receiver is included in the dialysis machine. 3. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the receiver is configured for at least one of Bluetooth®, WiFi™, or Zigbee™. 4. The dialysis system of claim 1 , further comprising a display device that is communicatively coupled to the dialysis machine, the display device configured to display at least one of the UF removed data, the blood pressure data, or the patient weight data. 5. The dialysis system of claim 4 , wherein the receiver is communicatively coupled to the display device. 6. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the dialysis machine is a peritoneal dialysis machine. 7. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the dialysis machine is configured to receive at least one treatment prescription (i) entered manually into the dialysis machine, or (ii) received via the network. 8. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is transmitted daily after the prescribed dialysis treatment is performed. 9. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the network is connected to a server located remotely from the dialysis machine, and wherein the UF removed data and at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is transmitted to the server via the network. 10. A dialysis system comprising: at least one of a blood pressure monitor configured to transmit blood pressure data or a weight scale configured to transmit patient weight data; and a dialysis machine coded with at least one of an address or a personal identification number (“PIN”) and in communication with the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale, the dialysis machine configured to perform a dialysis treatment on a patient, receive the at least one of the blood pressure data from the blood pressure monitor or the patient weight data from the weight scale over a frequency, data rate, or communication protocol, generate ultrafiltration (“UF”) removed data over the dialysis treatment, and send the UF removed data and the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to a processor that is communicatively coupled to the dialysis machine, the processor located external to the dialysis machine, wherein the at least one coded address or PIN is used by the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale and is provided with the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data sent to the dialysis machine, wherein the dialysis machine is configured to compare the at least one coded address or PIN to the address or PIN provided with the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data to ensure that the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received and processed by the dialysis machine as opposed to extraneous data received over the same frequency, data rate, or communication protocol from unwanted sources, including devices in proximity of the dialysis machine, as a result of the extraneous data from the unwanted sources not having the at least one coded address or PIN. 11. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the dialysis machine includes a display device configured to display the UF removed data and the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data. 12. The dialysis system of claim 11 , wherein the display device is configured to generate a curve based upon the UF removed data. 13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the dialysis machine is configured to send the UF removed data and the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data daily after the dialysis treatment is performed. 14. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is operable with a display device configured to display the UF removed data and the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data. 15. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the dialysis machine is configured to generate the UF removed data based upon the patient weight data. 16. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is received by the dialysis machine via manual entry by a user. 17. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the dialysis machine is a peritoneal dialysis machine. 18. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the processor is a server processor located remotely from the dialysis machine. 19. The dialysis system of claim 10 , wherein the dialysis machine is configured to receive the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data automatically after the at least one of the blood pressure data or the patient weight data is generated. 20. A dialysis system comprising: a dialysis machine configured to perform a prescribed dialysis treatment on a patient, generate ultrafiltration (“UF”) removed data over the prescribed dialysis treatment, and transmit the UF removed data; at least one of a blood pressure monitor configured to wirelessly transmit blood pressure data or a weight scale configured to wirelessly transmit patient weight data, the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale located external to the dialysis machine; and a receiver coded with at least one of an address or a personal identification number (“PIN”), the receiver configured to receive at least one of the blood pressure data from the blood pressure monitor or patient weight data from the weight scale wirelessly over a frequency, data rate, or communication protocol; wherein the at least one coded address or PIN is used by the at least one of the blood pressure monitor or the weight scale and is provided within the at leas
