Abstract

Official abstract text for this publication.

Orthopedic fixation devices, assemblies, and methods. The orthopedic fixation devices may comprise coupling elements, hook components, and/or bone fasteners. The bone fastener may be loaded into the coupling element through the bottom of a bore in the coupling element. The orthopedic fixation devices may include modular locking clamp assemblies that can be fixed onto fasteners that are already implanted in bone. The modular locking clamp assemblies can include polyaxial locking clamp assemblies, as well as monoaxial locking clamp assemblies. The hook components may include a female hook component slidably coupled to a male hook component.

What is claimed is: 1. A fixation device comprising: a male hook component configured to be inserted onto a bone member, wherein the male hook component comprises a rod member; and a female hook component operably connected to the male hook component, the female hook component slidably engages the rod member of the male hook component, wherein the female hook component comprises a head member, wherein the female hook component is configured to be tightened onto the male hook component to secure the female hook component to the male hook component wherein the head member is a locking mechanism that when rotated applies downward pressure on the rod member thereby locking the fixation device. 2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the female hook component is translatable and rotatable relative to the male hook component. 3. The device of claim 1 , wherein the head member of the female hook component includes a set screw for tightening the female hook component onto the male hook component. 4. The device of claim 1 , wherein the head member of the female hook component includes a set screw within a body of the head member for tightening the female hook component onto the male hook component. 5. The device of claim 1 , wherein the female hook component comprises a hook member that is laterally offset from the head member. 6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the female hook component comprises a hook member that is directly below the head member. 7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the head member of the female hook component is at an angle relative to the rod member. 8. The device of claim 1 , wherein the rod member of the male hook component is at least three times as long as a length of the female hook component. 9. The device of claim 1 , wherein a hook member of the male hook is oriented toward a hook member of the female hook. 10. A fixation device comprising: a male hook component configured to be inserted onto a bone member, wherein the male hook component comprises a rod member; and a female hook component operably connected to the male hook component, wherein the female hook component includes a head member, and wherein the female hook component slidably engages the rod member of the male hook component, wherein the head member is a locking mechanism that when rotated applies downward pressure on the rod member thereby locking the fixation device. 11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the female hook component is translatable and rotatable relative to the male hook component. 12. The device of claim 10 , wherein the head member of the female hook component includes a set screw for tightening the female hook component onto the male hook component. 13. The device of claim 10 , wherein the head member of the female hook component includes a set screw within a body of the head member for tightening the female hook component onto the male hook component. 14. The device of claim 10 , wherein the female hook component comprises a hook member that is laterally offset from the head member. 15. The device of claim 10 , wherein the female hook component comprises a hook member that is directly below the head member. 16. The device of claim 10 , wherein the head member of the female hook component is at an angle relative to the rod member. 17. The device of claim 10 , wherein the rod member of the male hook component is at least three times as long as a length of the female hook component. 18. The device of claim 10 , wherein a hook member of the male hook is oriented toward a hook member of the female hook.
