What is claimed is: 1. A purified antibody that specifically binds an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) comprising a deletion at position E746-A750, wherein said antibody comprises a heavy chain variable region having CDRs 1, 2, and 3 comprising the amino acid sequences set forth in SEQ ID NOs: 9, 10, and 11 respectively, and a light chain variable region having CDRs 1, 2, and 3 comprising the amino acid sequences set forth in SEQ ID NOs: 16, 17, and 18 respectively. 2. A purified antibody that specifically binds an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) comprising a deletion at position E746-A750, wherein said antibody comprises a heavy chain variable region comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 81. 3. The antibody of claim 2 , wherein the antibody comprises a light chain variable region comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 82. 4. A purified antibody that specifically binds an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) comprising a deletion at position E746-A750, wherein said antibody comprises a light chain variable region comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO: 82. 5. A purified antibody that specifically binds an epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) comprising a deletion at position E746-A750, wherein the heavy chain of the antibody comprises SEQ ID NO: 2 and the light chain of the antibody comprises SEQ ID NO: 4.
