A hermetically sealed optical component includes an optical material including an optical material comprising quantum dots sealed between glass substrates by a hermetic seal including a liquid crystalline polymer.

What is claimed is: 1. A hermetically sealed optical component comprising an optical material comprising quantum dots sealed between glass substrates by a hermetic seal comprising a liquid crystalline polymer, wherein the hermetic seal is colored white with TiO 2 . 2. A hermetically sealed optical component comprising an optical material comprising quantum dots sealed between glass substrates by a hermetic seal formed by heating a liquid crystalline polymer liquid crystalline polymer to a temperature above its T g (glass transition temperature), wherein the hermetic seal is colored white with TiO 2 . 3. A hermetically sealed optical component comprising an optical material comprising quantum dots sealed between glass substrates by a hermetic seal comprising a laser welded liquid crystalline polymer, wherein the hermetic seal is colored white with TiO 2 . 4. A hermetically sealed optical component in accordance with claim 1 wherein the substrates are planar. 5. A light emitting device including a hermetically sealed optical component in accordance with claim 1 . 6. A hermetically sealed optical component in accordance with claim 2 wherein the substrates are planar.
